  • Best sites on Moreton??

Hi all, I am taking my wife and 3 kids, 7, 5 and 7 months to Moreton Island just after Christmas for about 10 nights and towing the camper trailer. Because we have never been there before I am looking for others experience in recomendations for camp sites. We are looking in the West side of the island and looking at Comboyuro Point. The other options are North West, Ben-Ewa or South west, has anyone been there that could comment on these sites??

I am also wondering if over new year is a bit roudy and we should wait till just after new year, I need a nice quite break!! Hopefully the weather will be kind to us as well.....

    Thanks in advance

I'm going to revive this thread and hijack it for my use, since it's had no activity in years. I'll be going to Moreton for a week at the end of August and, despite having read pretty much every camping and 4WD guide there is, am still unsure about where the good spots are. Can anyone who's camped on Moreton share their opinions? So far i'm leaning toward the spot at the southern end of Cowan Cowan, but the lady's have concerns about toilet facilities. Are there public toilets in Cowan. Is it much of a drive to get to a toilet? Can you have a camp fire there? We really want a camp fire where we camp.

    Cheers,

    Mike

Wikicamps says "the wrecks" has toilets - 4 1/2 stars

      But it costs.

It does have toilets, but fires are prohibited. Same story with North Point.

A couple of people replied to a thread I started around Easter... a few good bits of advise if you can search it out.

We were there on Easter and stayed at Yellow Patch (north coast)
Had it for us a (group of 6 cars) but no facilities.
The near by North point camp ground has with toilets and shower and is a ten minutes walk or a quick drive.
The campground was at times quite busy with groups so I was quite happy that we stayed at Yellow Patch.
Nice lagoon for swimming, rocks for fishing and some protection from wind from the sea.
You need some 45 min from the ferry to get there.

I have one voucher left for the ferry as one person had to cancel. I have to check but I think it is transferable.
            Cheers

Thanks Mike. Did you take any pictures of the camp ground? Is the water visible from where you camp, or is it back behind the trees? Similarly, is it protected from the wind? Were there sandflies/mozzies/midges?

Did you check out any other camp sites while you were there?

Thanks Leon. I'd already had a look at your thread. Did you end up going?

The campsite is between some smaller trees but the water is still visible (depending on where you were sitting ;-))
Mozzies where ok, cant recall major issues with them, but that might be depend on the season.
Reason why we selected this spot was because it was wind protected according to the experience of a friend who had been there.
                  Sorry no photos

I too, will revive this thread.
Planning on heading to Comboyuro Camp ground in Dec for a few nights. Has anyone been there? How would it compare to Ben Ewa? If you have any idea of the best sites at that campground, would also be appreciated.
