Re: VIC: Saturday 13th November: Wombat SF - TRIP REPORT

OK guys - is there are any interest on doing another trip to the same area but probably different tracks on Sunday 28th of November (after the
Saturday election in Vic). If there are enough interest I might organise another trip...

            Cheers,

            Stan

Darren - I have kept notes, but I also have an oziexplorer track log file from the day - PM me your email address if you are interested in the file.

Otherwise I can post a list of the tracks we went on - when I get a few more minutes.

Wazza - at least the rain will put those control burn fires out...

                            Cheers, ld

Re: VIC: Saturday 13th November: Wombat SF - TRIP REPORT

Here's the route we took as I remember it:

We started from Bacchus Marsh, took the Bacchus Marsh Gisborne Rd North-East and turned left onto the Blue Gum track. A short way up we turned right and took the Nuggety Track loop back onto the Blue Gum track. A short way further north we took Ratcliffe Track loop all the way up to Firth Rd.

West on Firth Rd, into O'Briens Rd. Turned right onto Diggers track and took the loop back down Upper Chadwick track (after going a little further up Diggers track then turning around and coming back around the loop). Some potential camp grounds along the way and a creek crossing.

Further West on O'Briens Rd. Turned right onto XL track, left onto Chettle Rd, left onto Amber Lane, and back to O'Briens Rd. More camp grounds and creek crossings.

Continued West on O'Briens Rd to the end then up through Blackwood to Trentham for BBQ lunch.

Back to Blackwood, turned right onto Simmons Reef Rd, right onto Lerderderg Rd, and a small loop at Poveys track back onto Lerderderg Rd. Another nice creek crossing here. We turned around and did this one again in reverse, then back to Blackwood. We then did Amber lane in the other direction up to Chettle Rd, and time to go home, so followed Chettle Rd East to Firth Rd, Carrolls Lane and back onto the Bacchus Marsh Gisborne Rd and home.

All these tracks are well marked on the Wombat State Forest Touring Guide map published by Meridan Maps and available for about $15 at newsagents etc in the area - this map distinguishes well between the "closed" tracks which are marked dashed brown (management vehicles only) and the "open" tracks which are marked dashed red. My "free" OziExplorer 1:25000 map on the other hand does not distinguish, and does not have the track names - I suspect your Hema runs the same map unless you've added to it, so it's probably worth obtaining the paper map.

Hope it makes sense, Cheers ld
