    Hi Kelvin

We get into Cairns around 25th July and we're spending 2 weeks on the Gold Coast (from 7th to 21st August) before we head on again.

A bloke can only do so many theme parks ...

Then we head into the Deep South

    Cheers
    Chippy

Ditto on the never been there bit - but the 4WD days out magazine talks about a bit of beach and a bit of track etc - a decent mix.

                Cheers

Count me in at this stage Chippy.
Does anyone know about the dog situation. I think I read somewhere Russ was taking a dog. I wouldn't mind bringing mine for the outing if they're allowed. Russ..?? Do you know if we can or cant.? Or anyone with the track details in their book.?

                        Hey Fishnut

I'm taking my dog(if you can call it a dog) ,The beach has great spots to get out and have a run around and stretch the legs.Thats for the dog, I'm more incline to grab a bourbon and watch the kids and dog play.Put some old sheets across the back seat and floor as sand gets everywhere and as the rest said, there will be plenty of recovery gear to help those who get stuck on soft sandy boggy areas .I'm sure the first to get bogged will get photos taken by others as we pull them out.

                        Russ

I go up to Wilbinga with dog owners all the time.

If you go in through the carpark at Wilbinga Grove (as opposed to Military Road) just before you get to the beach there is a big bowl that leads up the face of a big sand dune, its always a bit of a challenge to get up.

I havent been to Wilbinga for a while but I was up at Wedge Island over the Foundation Day long weekend and the beach was a bit nasty in places.

During summer Wilbinga can be real soft, and with the lack of rain its a good chance it still will be. Once on the beach I'd make sure all those without proper recovery hooks are located accordingly just in case the going gets tough.

I went fishing up there a few years ago and a bloke in a 40 series was bogged just off the beach in the dunes, he had a trolley jack under his vehicle and was digging the sand out. Needless to say his hole kept getting deeper. It was about 42c and he and his girlfriend were just about to expire.

I rigged up to snatch him backwards onto the beach but just as I was about to give the word, he put it into gear and drove out backwards under his own steam. He was that intent on going forwards he hadnt even tried to reverse out.

You also need to be carefull of the odd cow up there as well.

                              Hello.
Well the only thing I can say for a definite is that I definitely don't know which trip we are going on.

                              That's all for now.

                              Sorry.

                              Jeff.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.
