Will have to get back there one day... did a day trip 4wd'ing with the Overlander Forum a few years back and it looked like a great place to stay.
Heaps of tracks to explore up there as well

The Valley Rattler (old steam train) terminates at Imbil after travelling down from Gympie each Sunday.

Here's a pic of the Valley Rattler after they've turned the engine around.

It's quite a sight to see... they turn it around on a big ol' lazy Susan

                Re: Island Reach Imbil

I was there on the 15th and 16th of October and agree it is a great spot. If you are looking for a good day out when camperd there driv through town past the General stor and servo and after about 5-8 minutes tou will come accross a road on your right that is a fauna and flaura reserve. The dirt road is quite easy with a few shallow creek crossings and a couple of steep hills. After a plesant drive (includin through a deer farm) it brings you out at the entrance to Landcruiser mountain park. We left Island reach at 9 am had about 4 hours at LCMP and was back for a cold beer at Imbill by 4pm.

                Cheers
                Alan.
