Re: Sunday Jan 16, 2011 - Mt Mee

Hi everyone, I am newish to this board and just made my first post yesterday after lurking for a few weeks.

This may seem strange but I don't actually own a Prado, in fact I don't even own a 4wd yet but I am considering buying one and thought I would join the board and learn some things before I drop a load of cash. I currently drive a Honda CR-V which is a great little SUV and I have done a few trips in it around Qld but obviously it is not a real 4WD and there are some places I can't take it. If I buy a 4WD it will serve as my regular day car as well as a tourer and I would sell the Honda.

I am a keen photographer (landscapes and wildlife especially birds) and I am planning trips to the red centre, NT (kakadu etc) and the Kimberleys in WA.

Anyway I am keen to learn more about 4WDs and especially Prados as they seem to be well regarded and are really the only vehicle I am seriously looking at so I figure who better to get to know and to learn from than you guys who actually own, operate and modify Prados.

So I was wondering if I could join up with one of your trips like this one on the 16th of January which I reckon I am free for. I could drive to the Dayboro Bakery and was hoping then that maybe someone would take pity on me and let me ride with them for the day. as I doubt the Honda will be able to follow you the whole way.

    Cheers
    Brett

      Hi Brett

We're not sure yet if we can make it but I'm sure ther will be a spare seat in one of the cars, this trip looks like there will be a lot of new faces so it should be a good one.

          Hi Brett,

This is exactly how I decided on my Prado... had a CR-V and met up with a crew from the Overlander forum... jumped in shotgun with someone and knew straight away I needed something more capable than the Honda (as nice as it was )
As Richo mentioned I'm sure there'll be a few spare navigator seats available on the day.
          Cheers, Leon

Hi Brett, you're welcome to tag along. Which model CR-V do you own (the older models are quite off road friendly)? The tracks I intend on traversing comprises of a few creek crossings and some descent. This trip is rated medium. As there are a few avid / professional photographers in the group, we will be stopping at various interesting location for a few snaps.

Also as we will be doing some exploring, I'm uncertain if we will be returning to the bakery after the run.

Maybe, in that case... the CR-V could be left at the Gantry Day Use Area if it's decided the trip is beyond it's capabilities... still, there's plenty of options.

Thanks for the welcome and offer of a seat, appreciated. 8)

I have the 2007 CR-V, I think the earlier models had a bit more clearance than mine does.

I don't know the tracks in the area so happy to leave the Honda where the group thinks best so it is not out of the way on the way home.

                Cheers

Do any of you guys that are coming along have the tpo9x1 ?? I was going to order one but if one of you have one I might hold off so I can have a look at one in the flesh and get your opinions on them.

                          That would be a negative.

                              Hi Kel

We are definate now and may have a Navara tagging along, he's pretty gung ho and has a 2" lift so we may only have to snatch him out once or twice.

Fozzy what is with Pradopoint at 5.25am?
