  • Licola Via Mt Margret & Chromite Mine

    Good afternoon all,
I thought I would share a little trip that I undertook last Friday. Now this is the first real trip in the Prado and although I drive cruisers at work in the mud this trip was like nothing I had really tackled before let alone in the Prado.
We headed out to Licola from Latrobe Valley. Leaving the black top at Hicky's Creek Track we aired down and then proceeded to climb up the track to McMillan look out.
Maybe I will take a little step back here and list the vehicle specs that went on this trip.
There was Me, Prado 150 D4D Auto stock including Grand Treks then there was the other one a Disco Series 2 with real A/T boots.
With me being not very experienced I let the Disco lead. She said if you get stuck yell out but don't get in too much trouble before you yell. No problems I said.
As we arrived at the look out she bowed down to the mighty Prado. If I had seen it I would have never would have believed that you could get here on those tires she said.
Response: Good driving skills (and traction control).
We continued along Hicky's Creek Track until we intersected the Mt Margret Track. We followed this one then onto Chromite Mines Track. Once we got to the mines we stopped for a leisurely lunch. On our departure we came across a Hilux that had a flat battery. They had hand winched it to the top of a hill using a high lift jack to try and roll start it. We gave him a jump and then continued on our way.
We climbed out of the mines and then descended to the Wellington River where we stopped and the kids had a paddle in the river and tossed some rocks around. Like all river crossings I checked it out by wading it (well that was my excuse for getting my feet wet.)
We climbed out of the river again and ascended to the track called B1 which brought us out onto the main road.
We stopped at Bennison look out and took in the view and the track we had traveled before heading to Licola for an ice-cream and drink.
So the summary of this trip is in questions.
Was I impressed with what the Prado could do? Um..... Yep very impressed
Did we have a good time? Yes it was a good trip with good views and some good driving.
Would I do it again? Why not. All I have to do is convince Mrs Crisp Image to let me and maybe she might come along with us and even have a drive.

    Thanks for listening
    Regards
Crisp Image and the Little Images.
