Daytripper loves his mud... don't ya... so we dished up plenty of the sticky stuff

Great day out, a few challenges, great company but now it's off to a BBQ... I'm sure someone will start the trip report for me.
      Cheers, Leon

Re: GH Mountains 29th Jan 11

        Hi Folks

The day started at the BP and off to the Glasshouse Lookout to air down via Steve Irwin Way. It was now that we found out the Trip Leaders UHF is in dire need of repair or possibly replacement!! Attendees were Snaga (Richo riding shotgun), Kelvin (Suzuki GV), Leethal, and Ben (Cruiser).

The first hill to get the adrenlin flowing was a short but rutted pinch

The next challenge was a long downhill run with a very rutted and muddy exit, Snaga was in like a bull at gate but to no avail,

After numerous attempts and different lines it was decided to get the Maxtrax out with some further guidance Snaga was free, the mud was definately sticky though.

All the others selected a different line Kel to the right, Ben and Lee to the left and then off to the little pinch on the way to the powerlines.

Kel showed what the lifted GV can do and then it was off to find some new tracks, when we came to a slight obstacle forcing some retracing of tracks.

The next track had some serious water berms on the way to a break for lunch

Wouldn't be trip report without the obligatory scenery shot

The last track tried was a dead end but some exciting driving through a mud hole that Leethal and Kel both attacked with verve and style

Time was getting away so it was off to Woodford for a pie, but not before recovering a short wheel base Vitara stuck on the very rutted access track.

Everybody had a great day and I would like to thank Snaga for the kind offer of letting me ride shotgun after my better half had hijacked the 150 to Straddie.

        Regards, Richo.

It is, but sadly done on the side of a road. I hit a switch box or something after parking on the curb shooting a job.
I've bent it back twice before so I thought I'd leave this one... who knows how fatigued the metal is getting.

Any time Richo... just hope it didn't bring back to many memories of your old 90 series

Here's an idea of where we went on the day.

As Richo said there were a few impassable obstacles, a closed gate that looked like it went onto private (looking at the Google Earth image I don't think it did... but it was heading in the wrong direction for that time of the day) and a track that turned into a creek
There's so many tracks to explore up there we'll have to get up that way again soon.

I haven't got any images off the camera today... turned into a very busy one.

Packed down the CT. Aired and ready for the Gordon Country camp.
Got called to my parents place on the southern end of the Gold Coast to help with some leaking plumbing and on my way there decided to put close to $20 of gold coin in the Arundel car wash to get the majority of the baked on clay off the car followed by a $20 machine/hand car wash... the ol' girl hasn't looked this clean for a while  ... well, the outside anyway ops:

Hopefully I'll get time to process some tomorrow... took some video as well.
              Cheers, Leon

Looks like great fun again! well done guys.. might have been cheaper for me to have forgone the Harley ride in the morning, then the visit to Jayco in the afternoon that netted us a Jayco Pop Top Caravan.... and joined you guys at GH! ..so Gordon Country will be a shakedown of the new Jayco... and the CT onto the ForSale sites! .... as they say... its only money..... sheeesh!

Re: GH Mountains 29th Jan 11

Here's a few shots from my camera...

This rut and slippery mud was dictating which way I moved... Careful placement of the Maxtrax and a strategically cut channel had me pop out of the ruts and off in the direction Lee later went.

                    Lee enters the slop...

But chooses a different path... which I also took after the sticky stuff got the better of me.

Ben lines up for an attack on the sloppy stuff...

There were a few more rutted descents to navigate before we turned towards the usual 'bog hole' but it's had a path of rocks placed through the center by the EPA (I'm guessing) so after the extreme water berms that Richo showed it was time for some lunch.

From the lunch spot we followed a logging track around the back of the 'bog hole' and then tried our luck on the river section that used to be a basic access track but it's been butchered by something very big!!

After that we tried a few side tracks and had fun exploring... although Kel commented at one stage he didn't like how close he was sliding towards a fallen tree

I'll process the videos soon... I promise
                    Cheers, Leon

Hard to tell but I'd say so... I should have used the maxtrax to try and get through the sloppy stuff and I'm sure having two back wheels grabbing the Maxtrax would have been beneficial.
Judging by the first pic in my post my diff was dragging most of the time so I'm sure there would have been wheels in the air at some stage... the locker would have kept the one on the ground turning no matter what (even if it was just throwing mud everywhere  )

                          Hi Hutch

I took around 50 odd photos on the day, but you have to be very quick to catch Kel, you look around and the very quiet Suzuki is driving past you while your still thinking about turning the camera on!!

Needles to say there wasn't much that Kel declined on, very inpressive.

                          Regards, Richo.
