Re: Vic High Country - Easter

hi guys, sounds like a good plan.
Is the idea to camp at one spot and travel?
Hopefully I should be ok around that time with the new bubs.
    Cheers

Re: Vic High Country - Easter

Darren the plan is to stay in one spot and day trips if you want or stay around the camp. We just took our 16 month up there over new years . Try not make the days to big so we can get back to camp early but open to any suggestion

Re: Vic High Country - Easter

A few from our club were up there a few weeks ago and said there's one washed out rock shelf on Bill Goat Bluff Track - 500m from the top.
Might be a bit of a challenge for standard cars without a lift.
                Rest is OK.
                Cheers, Wayne

Re: Vic High Country - Easter

I am leaving Zig Zag the week before Easter, with my two youngest boys. We are doing the so called Sydney to Melbourne run via dirt roads only. We aim to be in the Vic high country some time around Easter, so might see some of you guys there.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

There's great camping spots along the Howqua River, ( go to Merrijig from Mansfield and turn right to Sheepyard Flat ) but they tend to get very busy at Easter. If you go further along Brocks Road to 7 mile or 8 mile, you might have better luck.
From 8 Mile you can walk in to Ritchies hut ( 6km ). It's also only a shortish drive to Bluff, Lovicks, Upper Jameison and Bindaree Huts. You can camp at Upper Jameison Hut or Bindaree near the river, but I think the river crossing getting in to UJH may be still a bit risky.
When going through Sheepyard Flat you turn right to Frys Flat, and look at Frys Hut. Then when visiting Ritchies and Upper Jameison you'll see similar construction techniques, because these were built by the same guy ( Fred Fry ).
These are all "real" historic huts unlike Craigs, although you could argue that Craigs is part of our herttage now too.
Other camping spots along the King River like Pineapple Flat, but I'm not sure if the tracks in there are open .
                            Cheers, Wayne

                              G'day Anders,

Trip sounds sort of familiar ;-)

I'll be in there with about five cars, camping at Camp2 from the Christmas trip - might see you about - we were going to do a couple of similar trips - will be on Ch26
