  • Yeomada,
What switched said. I forgot to take the photo of the bashplates on Nickchap's Prado as he had a Sovereign bar installed. But essentially, there is a big gap between the Sovereign bar and the radiator cross member. There is a DIY radiator bashplate thread somewhere.

    Marc,
I'll be putting the order in next week. I've just got to check iantz's and voyager4x4's Prado regarding the longer plate required for the diesels. I expect to be placing the order in next week.

Here is a photo of the top of the rear plate through the tyre and wheel arch I promised a few posts up.

    • Tonight I installed my diff drop kit to make sure that the bashplates are going to clear the diff. Here are the photos of the kit and with the kit installed. Took under half an hour.

      • And here is the photo of the clearance of the bashplate to the diff. About a bee's whisker, or less than a mm.

I also measured the clearance of the bashplate and I got 250mm. This is with the suspension settings on normal height (Grande), 40mm lift at the front & rear and 265/70R17 Wrangler MTRs with 40psi in them. I then ran out of time to measure the factory bashplate.

I am now standardising the front plate so that it is common between the diesel, V6 and whether you wish to have a diff drop installed or not. The photo below with the <1mm clearance between the diff and the bashplate is the new standard plate. I am making cutouts to cater for the transmission cooler line brackets. This means that the ground clearance is the same for all Prado variants. The only variant now is the rear plate which needs to be longer for the diesels.

        • Hi Andrew
I meant an ETA of when you might think they will be actually available to us to bolt on to our cars, after you order, after they are made, after they are powder coated etc etc?
          Cheers

            • I met with the fabricators today with the latest round of drawings. He has suggested that another round of prototype (this time with all features included) be done before committing on a full order of ~30 sets. The reason for doing this is due to the changes I have introduced to improve the strength of the large bashplate, the standardisation of the front bashplate to suit all models and the extension of the rear plate for diesel models.

The fabricator will look at completing this final prototype work in 2 weeks.

For those who can't wait for the final product to roll off the line, please let me know so that I can take you off the list. I'm sorry that this has taken so long however, the fitment of the current prototype has thrown up some new ideas for improvement and I think that it is worthwhile for the improvements to be incorporated.

I will throw up the new CAD pictures on Monday when I'm back at work.

              • Good on Ya Andrew!!! Nothing like making what looks like to be a great product even better!!! Gives me time for me to get my s#*t together and find the extra funds to place an order. (Still Suspension and Tyres ahead on my list)

                  Top effort.
I will be back in 2 weeks if you need my car again.
Lake Eyre and Birdsville here we come. Leaving tomorrow.

                  • I am also making the front plate closer to the diff mounting point. This should gain an extra 15-20mm clearance at that point.

Nick, enjoy your trip and I'll see you in 2 weeks.

As always I am loyally awaiting delivery of my plates 2 months ago. A few more weeks won't hurt. Given you hijacked my original thread I do expect to be given the first personal notification that the plates are ready for pick up.
PS well done mate, enjoyed the ribbing back and forth along the way too.

Did anyone design a sticker for the plates? This should be an easy exercise for someone with the software. I will be disappointed if they do not have labels....

You did, and I'll take it a step further and contact Piggy a bit later. It is currently a bit low on the priority list at the moment.
