The material is hot rolled structural HA250 steel.

hey amts, im now unsure whether i have been included in this round of buying? or if im on the list at all? i asked 2 times ages ago for some more info on what you needed me to pay etc, but i didnt get a pm or a reply. Can you please let me know whether im still in or not?

Although I have not replied directly to your post, I have been updating the list in post #2. You are on the list but it is unlikely that the production version will be ready by September. Well at least not early September. I suggest you get something else if it is cutting too close to your trip. Do let me know if you wish to withdraw from the list.

September? What are they doing, x-raying each sheet for structural integrity?, engraving serial numbers on each item as a sign of authenticity? I was soo young when I made that first post that evolved into these plates. I fear I will be dead before the final product is ready.

I can see the news article now " amts makes 6 bashplates for the beloved antique Prado 120 series. Unfortunately only 3 of these vehicles are known to exist and one of those has a Brown Davis plate. In other news, Toyota has announced the arrival of the Prado 2700 series with optional plasma drive and long range tanks meaning you won't have to fill up until your reach Alpha Centuri.

Dont suppose there are any fabricators down your way who actually want the work is there?

When I first started this, I contacted quite a few fabricators. The ones I didn't choose had a combination of the following:
1. Didn't want to know about it/didn't respond
2. Was too small and didn't have the necessary tooling to make some of the bends
3. Was just as expensive as Brown Davis
4. Didn't have compatible software

The saying goes: cheap, good and fast - choose 2.

I'm trying my best to move things along at my end.

Sorry, should have added a smilie face at the end of that. The post wasn't meant to come across as being annoyed, etc. Just explaining the choices and that the saying holds true most of the time. My machinist who does the tyre spacers is an exception though.

You could machine the plates from titanium! I saw some serious blocks of this stuff as part of my work. Damn expensive, no wonder the new strike fighters cost sooooo much money. Yes, they machine parts for the strike fighters, but hey, its Radelaide, half of the state is doing something related to defence....

I'm thinking 5-6 mm titanium plate, one piece from front to back. Cost roughly 15-20k (after waste recovery). sweet!

Then again, carbon fibre may be a cheaper option.
