Existing thread (below) moved to the For Sale section.

Anyone chasing the chassis pins for the Sovereign bullbar? The bar that I bought second hand did not come with it and I suspect that not many second hand bullbars sold will have the chassis pins included.

I've measured up the hole in the chassis and about to give the machinist the go ahead, but thought that there might be others out there who are missing these. Toyota are charging $130-$145 for the fitting kit. You can't just buy the chassis pins separately.

The price is $50 a set which includes:
    - 2x chassis pins
    - 2x M12 x 130 high tensile bolt
    - 2x M12 flat SUPA washer (much thicker and bigger OD than a normal washer)
    - 2x M12 spring washer

Send an email to amtsprado at gmail dot com with the following subject:
    username chassis pin state postcode

After installation, the bar movement seems to have reduced by quite a bit.

Do you have the old mounting system that is under recall? The new, updated mounting system does not have the pins - it is a different system altogether to get over the fact that the 'crush cans"/ box section that mount to the chassis crack badly. There is a thread on here about the recall- get the new bits and you wont need the pins. Neil

I have had my bullbar recall done. As far as I can determine:
      1. There is still a hole in the new brackets to take the M12 bolt that ties the new bracket to the chassis pins.
      2. All of the Prados I have inspected at the car yard and in parking lots still have the M12 bolt and chassis pins fitted.
      3. The fitting instructions for the latest recall bracket kit mentions the chassis pins.

From what I can see, the chassis pins distribute the pulling forces deeper into the main chassis rails. This is a good thing to have during winching. It should help a bit with the bar shaking on the chassis (emphasis on "a bit") :-)

          Andrew,

I've been advised by toyota (have it written on my record in case something was to happen) that these were not needed anymore. In fact they left them without attaching to anything and one almost made a hole in the side tank of my radiator.

If you have conflicting information i may need to revisit this

As per point 3 in the post above, the chassis pins are mentioned in the fitting instructions.

In my opinion, it offers a better solution (i.e. read stronger) than just bolting a bullbar to the flange of the chassis and an additional bracket support to the radiator cross member. To me, the function of the chassis pin pulls the bar onto the chassis and helps to restrain it higher up.

If you already have the chassis pin, then it is just a matter of putting the M12x130 HT bolt in. IMO, if there is something cheap you can do to increase the reliability and longevity of a product, then that is cheap insurance in my books. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gone to the (huge) effort of measuring up the holes and going back and forth with the machinist (and swinging the radiator out of the way nearly a dozen times while doing so ). [But we all know I enjoy this sort of thing]

I have been informed that chassis pins are still required with the new mounting brackets, especially if a winch is fitted. The recall kit doesn't include chassis pins because there is no reason to remove them to change the brackets, they are just re-used with the new bracket. The assumption is that the chassis pins were fitted with the original installation.

Toyota do have a fitting kit for the Sovereign bar for $145.45 (part number PZQ296016ZFK) which should include chassis pins. I'm still waiting for Toyota to confirm what is actually included in the fitting kit. If there are no chassis pins with the fitting kit, then perhaps they are not required, but there is no harm in fitting them. I decided to get a set of these chassis pins from amts and save myself $95 anyway.

Also, for those interested, Toyota still stock the winch cradle for $201.30 (PZQ29602WC). The new mounting brackets (PZQ296016ZBK) are $704.80 so it's well worth getting the recall done.

I picked up my winch cradle today and had a look at the current Sovereign bar fitting kit from Toyota and can confirm that the kit includes chassis pins, as can be seen in the photo on the left. Excuse the poor quality photos, but I had to take them with my phone:

                Part number PZQ296016ZFK $145.45

This fitting kit is for the new mounting brackets and confirms that chassis pins are required. Chassis pins are not available separately from Toyota. I also had a look at the new bracket recall kit and can confirm that chassis pins are not included in the recall kit.

The only way to get chassis pins is to buy some from amts for $50 or buy the complete fitting kit from Toyota for $145.45

I would suggest that chassis pins are just as important as a winch cradle if anyone was to have a winch fitted to the Sovereign bar.

The fitting instructions from this “thread” are they for the Sovereign Alloy Bull Bar before or after the recall?
As these fitting instructions still use the chassis pins which were not used on my Sovereign Alloy Bull Bar after the replacement brackets were installed as a result of the recall.
Does anyone have the fitting instructions for the recall bracket replacement?
Have been doing some internet research on the subject and had come across this thread and found very interesting as it's related my the “thread” started by myself under “General Discussion” for 120’s.

Chassis pins are still required after the new brackets are fitted. Generally, they are left in the chassis and re-used when the brackets are replaced.

This is a diagram of the location of the chassis pins with the new recall bullbar brackets:

                        Hello amts,

Just came across this older thread re Soveriegn bar recall brackets on the 120. Do you have a pic that shows what the recall brackets look like if fitted? Also the TMC reference for the recall? Would like to check mine.

BTW is this kit the complete recall kit? Part number PZQ296016ZFK $145.45

                        Cheers DG

I have this part number as the recall kit PZQ296016ZBF. I would try ringing your dealer as I have heard a few people getting the recall brackets done for free recently.

PZQ296016ZFK is just for the bolt kit which includes the chassis pin inside.

I fitted a new bar to a customers car yesterday, replaced a bent one, the pins were there but the bolts were missing. The chassis end flange was cracking off so I had to weld it back on. I reckon it was because of the missing bolts.

Hello, I’ve fitted the bullbat, and now revisiting it with a torque wrench.

Does anyone know the bolt head size for the wrench? I don’t want to try trial and error because it’s buried so deep,
it’s a good way to loose sockets in there!
