jss - if you can plug a memory card / stick into your computer, then that's about as hard as it gets. From there, you just copy your maps (in OziExplorer format obviously) into the 'maps' folder. You do get an instruction booklet, and an email address for ongoing support (phone too if you really need). In the end it's basically like copying pictures to/from a digital camera etc.

    Cheers
    Ian.

Yes. Happy for returns within 7 days if you aren't happy with the unit (doesn't cover damage done by the purchaser). Cash back, no questions asked (no refund on postage though). 3 months after that for warranty repair (needs to come back to me again). If I can't fix the issue, or get it fixed by the manufacturer, then I'll replace with comparable unit.

If people want 3G units, then I can also do these (PM me direct). I can also organise to purchase and set-up just about any tablet you like if you have a particular brand in mind but not the know-how to set it up for a full-blown navigation solution (samsung galaxy, nexus, whatever). I can often get these at better prices too, just ask.

        Cheers

Unfortunately not. Most Android tablets units don't have AV-in functionality. I can source one, but I don't usually stock them.

am keen on one of these units..

where can you download updated street maps from and is there a cost?

I take it I can tether this to my mobile phone to enable internet access on it?

                Tax invoice supplied?

Sent you a PM as well, but will provide some answers here. 1) The unit comes with the free version of MapFactor for Android. You can update the maps whenever you like as it uses OpenStreetMaps data. I am happy with the system, but you may not be. The beauty of an Android system is you can add whatever you like that suit your needs. For instance, Metroview is an Australian Navigation program on the Android Market and costs @$18 and allows ongoing map updates (all you need is a WiFi point, but beware the files are large so not wise to use a phone network). 2) Correct, if your phone provides a wireless hotspot, then that will work no problems. I can't comment whether it works if tethering via USB. 3) I can give you a receipt, though I have no ABN as this is a hobby only. However, I don't believe I need an ABN in order for you to claim it as a deduction

                  Cheers
                  Ian.

You mentioned that you can get other brand tablets. I was thinking of a nice flash Asus unit. What can you do for me or would I be better off with something else. I want it for more than just navigation. Cheers.

Ordered Friday, delivered Wednesday. All loaded up with ozI explorer. Ian has done a fantastic job using an Acer Iconia tablet. Comes all set up and ready to navigate. I will road test this unit and report back later.

Glad it made it safely to you. Ill be honest, I was tempted to keep it. I'm impressed with the A1-810. Just as well I bought four of them I guess!

What is the screen performance like in sunlight - i.e. is it still readable? (This has been my biggest bugbear with gps devices)
Will the Android OS update as time goes on?

                          Cheers

Im a civil engineer and whilst I would love a full Trimble setup in my ute the $5K plus price is pretty off putting.

Do you know if any of the mapping programes are suitable to run with dwg. files or 12D files?

As with pretty much any device, direct sunlight is a problem. I don't find this to be an issue in the car as much as on the boat where the sun can beam in from behind the canopy area. In the car, I find it very rare that I get bad enough sun on the screen for it to be an ongoing issue. Matte screen protectors can help the issue if necessary. The Android/Tablet set ups in my opinion are overall better in terms of dealing with reflection because the screens are generally brighter.

I'm not sure about 12D. I don't think it's directly compatible with Ozi. I have read that you can apparently conver .DWG files to .BMP, which you can import to the PC version of OziExplorer and subsequently georeference and then save for use on the GPS/Tablet systems.
