    Subject: <PP username> M6 cage nuts

Here's the text from the original thread:

Is there any interest in having the cage nuts in ARB bullbars (or similar) replaced with stainless steel ones? These are the square captive nuts under the bullbar that the splash panels attach to.

Yep, sign me up, my normal ones are leaving rust stains on the bar already.

Do the wing splash plates also use caged nuts?

From memory the wings have larger bolts, also I think they might be welded nuts but cant really remember. Might look tomorrow when its light.

I am missing one of the caged nuts from the middle guard so yes I would be interested.

        Cheers Andrew

I read somewhere that the wing panels were a pain to take off. If they're not caged nuts that would be a shame.

I have to get the nuts in bulk as it is not an off the shelf item. So the more the merrier and cheaper.

Now that I have thought about it a bit more I think the wings are just plain ordinary nuts, removing the wings isn't as hard as some would have you believe, but I have long arms which probably helps.

            What do you call bulk?

            Cheers Andrew

So you would need to TIG the cages into place?

If they are as pictured, we have bucket loads of these things at work from various network and rack installs over the years. I'll check my ARB bar tomorrow morning. They may not be stainless but could probably replace them more often if they are indeed these. You buy them wholesale electrical outlets like Ideal.

I replaced mine with flange nuts/bolts. Needs some patience to get them going initially however you can torque them up properly and they don't vibrate loose on corrugations like the cage nuts do. I use a bit of gaffa tape on the end of the ring spanner to get the nut to 'stick' in place until I have them threaded.

I used medium thread locker on all the bolts on my ARB bar and haven't lost one yet.

I lost so many I removed them all and put a rivnut into their place. Fits perfectly and will never come out again.

The ones used for server racks are plated for air conditioned environment. Also there are several different size cage nuts depending on panel thickness. The uprights on server racks aren't as thick as the panels on the bullbar.
