      Cruise Control Issue

Still having intermittent problems with the cruise control with booster fitted

I have also noticed that if the cruise does not switch on the auto trans will not go into 5th and holds the lower gears. I figure somehow the ECU is getting an incorrect signal from the accelerator / wind booster and changing lots of other parameters. Poor ECU must be confused. No error codes appearing and no CEL.

Solution - stop, turn off engine, restart and things back to normal. Bit of a bother though.

Anyone else had this issue? May have to contact Glenn for a replacement.

      Cheers

Things a geting a little more interesting now - when cruise wont switch on, the whole dash lights up with all the warning lights on. Switch off restart and everything fine - no fault codes (checked with the SMART gauge). Wind booster is coming out ASAP and I will be contacting Glenn - think this one must be faulty. Hopefully we can organise a swap over.

        Cheers

          Hey guys,

I like the sound of what this wind booster can do, but does anyone know how it does it and can you please explain it, as my name suggests, I'm confused.

          Cheers, Stuey.

Forgive my ignorance but how does this device work? If I want more throttle response I just push the throttle down more or faster. If I want economy I just push gently and or less.

Does this device just effectively do both of the above by modifying the electrical signal from the throttle so it does it with the same travel? In other words, does this device just change the "apparent" responsiveness by condensing the pedal travel into a shorter distance?

I don't understand where the $250 value is in this if it's just an "apparent" change... So yeah, what does it actually do?

Roo is spot on. Late models like 150's have some lag in the electronic throttle. These units allow you to dial this out completely. Mine is great.

I think it's great as well... The response is petrol like..... but depending on how u drive will depend on whether u use more fuel or not....

Since I installed mine the fuel usage has actually dropped. I don't know why, am thinking it may be that the vehicle is now getting to cruising speed quicker

Sorry guy's been flatout lately and hardly get the time to get on here.

the system basically works by amplifying the throttle input so in saying that it will definately help with towing and in the eco mode I have found I am using less fuel because there is free play in the pedal.

So it won't adjust the lag in response? From what I read from that is that all it does is let you drive like a lead foot, whilst letting your brain pretend that your driving in your normal manner? If you push your foot down a quarter of the way, it would register as though you have pushed in half way or what ever the case may be and open the throttle accordingly? Obviosuly, once the throttle is wide open, then it can't be opened any further, so it would make the throttle open to 100% with half the pedal movement (or what ever percentage of pedal movement the unit has set). To me that provides absolutely no benefit, I can just push my foot down more agressivley and get exactly the same result with the added benefit of thinking about the stress I am putting on the engine.

If I am wrong please correct me, I am not trying to bag the product, just trying to comprehend what it does and find out whether it is suitable for my wants and needs.

                          Cheers,

                            Stuey.....
I was of the same belief as you.... until Brains let me borrow his to try it out. When I installed it I set it on P2 to get the greatest effect/response. I then tried it on P1, still having a pleasing effect.

Without the unit, no matter how hard u push your foot down, there is always a bit of a lag and I found this to be a PITA. With the unit installed, this delay/lag was gone and it was much more responsive and I found it reacted the way I believe it should have from factory. The missus use to complain about the poor response when pulling out into oncoming traffic, now, she loves it and quite often she tells me she dragged someone off at a set of lights..... So in saying that to, I found it can also effect your economy depending on your driving style and the setting u have it on, but it's worth it though. The change in fuel usage wasn't that much either.... it would have been as little as .1 to .2 ltr/100kms or so. Nothing to worry about when u have a lead foot wife

In the end, its your choice and if u don't think it's worth the $$, then put your funds towards something that u want more for your car.....easy

                                Thanks Rob and Matt,

thats the sort of information I want to try and get, if it helps the lag, then it is worth looking at. Matt I'm like you and have the manual (although a 120). So you've noticed a good difference in the manual as well? Due to my love of remote area touring, I don't like installing things on my car that may reduce the reliability of it (hence I moved away from wanting a chip after reading about several issues on here). I don't think this item will effect reliability in any way, so long as I notice a difference I will be happy.

                                Cheers Stuey.
