          Am keen to get a second spare AND I'm a fan of Toyo tyres and have been looking at the LT Toyo however my understanding is that the LT TOYO 265/70/17 at about 804mm is too big to fit on a GXL?

          What is the diameter of the rim and tyre? It it legal to use it on a 2008 GXL?

            265/65R17 is the standard fitment on the majority of Prados. You can go wider to 275/65R17 and still be legal. If you go higher profile to 265/70R17, then the diameter is larger than allowed by the transport authorities. However, there is NCOP that has been drafted to allow up to 50mm bigger in diameter for tyres. I think most states have not embraced NCOP yet.

            If you do want to run 265/70R17, you would need to get an engineer's certificate to make it legal. This cost about $350. There are plenty of Prado owners who are running this size due to the much greater choice of offroad tyres. It is only recently that we have seen BFG ATs in 265/65R17. Cooper ATRs have had that size for a while. For more aggressive tread, you would need to go to 265/70R17.
