That is a poor job and I wouldn't be happy at all just like you. They just expect you to accept it don't they

Sorry to hear it Rob ... but that is just crap !

It's not like you gave a kid $1 at a set of lights to wash your windscreen .. you paid good money to have a professional job done and they screwed it up.

The job looks absolutely awesome ... and then some little turd, from Dodgy Brothers Electrical Services, goes and does that. It irks me

      Cheers

Hi Darkhorse your B/B and lights look fantastic, i've just today ordered the exact same set up. Would be interested in your thoughts on the IPF 900xs spotties and there performance.

          ScottC,

For the price I think that the IPF900's are a great spot. A very narrow beam, which throws quite a distance. I have to spots, whereas on my last car I had 1 spot and 1 spread.............

Although the light is good, I want to upgrade the units with the 50W HID kit from ARB, soon I hope.

The units seem very strong, secured well to the bar, unlike the plastic setup I seen yesterday on the Lightforce 240's

          Regards,

          Rob

I own the above mentioned spots and find them to be robust and light the road up well. Havn't had to adjust them since I first put them in either, like I had to do with the old Hella's. I have one spot and one spread currently.

The old guards used to be chopped away like this ...

Now the plastic liner only has about 10 mm trimmed from it's width.
All of it's original length and curve is retained and there are two metal plates that screw onto the bullbar and retain the end of the inner plastic guards.

Does anyone know if these plates are now standard for Toyota to fit? Do they come with the bar or do they have to be ordered separately?

I ask because I am pretty sure that the dealer has fitted my bar without them installed like the first pic. If it has been fited this way can I reasonably expect it to be rectified under warranty or is this still the Toyota accepted method of fitting?

Mav ... I ordered this kit from Toyota in June and arrived in a fridge sized box .. complete with the plates, the fittings and a very clear set of instructions. This was also the updated fitting kit.

If your dealer has installed it any other way I would be preparing a garlic and butter sauce for dipping the roasted cojones into.

These are Toyota's own updated instructions .. so I would imagine that their service agents are responsible for following those instructions.

                Cheers, and good luck

Thanks Chippy, I have been on to the dealer again and he went back to the predelivery manager who has assured him that the plates have been fitted so I can rest easy now.

Please to hear it Mav ... I was getting a bit worried (not as much as you were) when you mentioned they might have done the old butcher install.

Now just get out and enjoy the hell out of your new toy

Yes they do. There quite a few snippets throughout the forum about it.

The bar is fixed to the chassis. Your head is fixed to your body which is fixed to the seat which is fixed to the cars body which is mounted on rubber blocks on the chassis. The bar doesn't actually move ... you do as you are mounted on rubber blocks bouncing along over corrugations.

It can look quite disconcerting the first few times. There is actually supposed to be a tag placed in vehicles with the bars fitted to let the owner know that this is normal.

... and it does settle a bit .. either that or your eyes start to bounce in synch with the bar and you don't notice it.

                        Cheers

They forgot that tag with my car. Had to find out the answer on PP.

hay chippy where did ya get ya recovery points from, im gunna make a set up. A nice piece of 16/20mm mild steel should do the job, they look the part and should be a wee bit stronger than the standard tow/ tie down points

Hey Plucker ... I fitted the bar myself ... had a look at the tag and chucked it in the bin. With skill like that I could be a Toyota techie.

Samo ... the recovery points are the Outback Ideas units that I bought from TJM for around $80 the pair .. with all the bolts and stuff.

Yep $2k is a bit expensive, I got mine for way less, even the better deal website, when looking at car prices shows that for the bar included it is only about $1788.00 fitted

Sovereign Alloy Bar - Winch Comp Polished - $ 1788
Sovereign Alloy Bar - Winch Comp Powder Coated - $ 1568

So I would recheck with the manager of your local dealership!
