  • I've priced up the drawer today and it looks like quite an expensive job...

    2 x T-Handles: $55 incl. Postage
    2 x 700mm 90kg runners: $181.95 incl. postage
    2m x 4m carpet: $143.48
    Plywood: $120 (estimate)
    12mm bars: $20 (estimate)

    This comes to around $530!

Since I'm going to be using the drawers at time to put some really heavy things in I had to go for the heavy duty ones as I know the 45kg ones just won't cut it.

Anyone got any ideas as to where I can trim some fat?

    • Go with rails from bunnings, I got a set for something like 30 bucks?? They don't support 90kgs but they do support something like 35kgs. I have much more than 35kgs on them at the moment (including the drawer itself) and they are working just fine.

2m x 4m?? That's HEAPS, what kind of drawers were you planning on making? I only used 1m x 2m and I had enough to line the inner drawers too...

      • Oh and you could probably learn a lot from my mistakes and save yourself some cash from the writeup I did when I built my first set of drawers. Here's the link to my build: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...GXL-D4D/page11

        Cheers

        • Ok... have some progress:

Bought the T Latches today. After having been quoted $50ea I wasn't going to get them at all, but found them at a nearby trailer shop for $20ea.

          Latch:

These are the guys I got it from, if anyone else is struggling trying to find them (like I did) here's their contact details:

In relation to the carpet, went to Clark's rubber and got a little sample to stew over... $21 for 2m x 1m
          Front side

          Under side

How much of it would I need to do a double drawer with interior lining as well? The size is going to be similar if not the same to the very first post of this thread.

Another query... when mounting the T handle, has anyone made some sort of a cover for the tongue on the other side? I wouldn't want for the drawers contents to shift while 4wding and getting in the way of the tongue so that it couldn't be opened... I was thinking of making it like a little box left right and bottom side and leaving the top open obviously so that it can clip onto the top of the drawer.

I thought the same when I made my drawer, I haven't done anything about it yet and thankfully haven't had a problem with it yet. If you do make something up I would be keen to see it and perhaps do the same to mine.

                • It will still cost you around $500, at least 1 day of labour and alot of running around to get all the bits...

That was my thought, I needed something specific and if I made it myself I could have it exactly the way I wanted it.

                      • Can anybody show me how they have mounted their draws in the back of their 90 series? I have a solid bar for the third row seats, unlike the removable ones I see here that allows you to buy your own 12mm rod. Also, has anybody got any dimensions for the draws that they have in their 90? I'm looking to have a setup like Chriso57's. Thanks in advance, and what a fantastic thread.

                        • I don't think I actually posted any completed pics of the Fridge enclosure previously......

                          So here are a couple:

We have a 50ltr fridge and built it to fit a 60ltr. So there is still extra height if required.

Spose I better take one with the slide out...

                            Mum will be happy!
I like the contour of the bottom right side of the draw front, to follow the rear door opening.
                            Very neat.

                            • Hi Guys and greetings from Germany,

after I found this thread during my preparation for our next trip the decision was clear for me, THAT's what I need as well.. But seeing the prices from our German shops and these good ideas here I did build my own.

Here a link in a German Land Cruiser forum with some pictures:
                              http://www.landcruiserfreunde.org/vi...4c29531e#15087

If I add all items together I invested around 320,-€ (~425,-$)
                              6,25m3 wood 150,-€
                              2x handles with lock 48,-€
                              4x 90kg 700mm runners. 62,-€
                              4m3 carpet 28,-€
                              small stuff(screws,etc.) 30,-€

                              Thanks for all good inspirations,
                              Juergen

Ps.: one short question, I cannot see all the threads before June 2011, where do I have to go?
