I've gone through at least half this thread and a bunch of others, but can't find if someone's got pics up of their storage with the second row of seats out. I plan on doing a shelf and container setup and was hoping there'd be some nifty ideas on here. Any pics would be great
How has everyone fitted their drawers to the floor on a 150 and avoided the power cables being run across the back of the floor? Also, is there any way to cover up the exposed plastic on the D pillars like the outback brand does?
Hi Pradoneons,
I know this is an old thread - but it inspired me to build my own set of drawers.
I used
17mm Construction ply for the Top and Sides (Bunnings).
12mm Construction ply for the bottom plate and drawers (Bunnings).
Marine/automotive carpet (Bunnings).
100Kg drawer runners (ebay).
T handles (ebay).
Many hours hidden away from Mrs and kids . . .
Well Done Mick, You can cut 2 oval shape holes in the front as well so you can hide lots of goodies , have a look at my posts way back in this thread, Russ.
First time poster here.
After long thinking and deciding whether I wanted to throw the cash down for some Drifta drawers or build my own I found the inspiration from this thread to give it a crack and make my own drawers.
Made from 15mm and 12mm structural ply, completely painted to help seal the ply and neaten the areas that aren't carpeted. I used 125kg slides and paddle latches from Dunn and Watson and added a Waeco slide for my CFX40. Carpet did have some spots where the direction of pile seemed to change which is why you might see some light and dark spots but doesn't bother me. Didn't carpet the wings as I didn't mind the look of them just left painted and lucky I didn't as I wouldn't have had enough carpet to complete the drawers.
To secure the drawers I have used turnbuckles to the factory tie downs near the door and removed the tie downs towards the seat and have a long bolt and panel washer that tightens down from inside the drawer cavity.
I also have a small cavity between the drawers and the rear seat which I plan to one day have a water tank made to fit.
Time will tell how long they last haha. But for a quarter of the price of the Drifta drawers (including buying my waeco slide) I can't complain with the result and overall I am extremely happy with how they turned out.
Some very inspiring and creative work happening in this thread! Must say my hats off to some of the systems that have been developed and showcased here! Well done guys! Bloody well done.
i have one simple question before I start gathering materials and starting to build my own setup to suit my needs.
When mounting the inside drawer runners on the centre drawer divider... has anybody had the opposing screws foul on each other? I’m not sure how long the screws are. Or have you drilled completely through the panel and used bolts to secure both runners instead of the supplied screws? I’ll be using 600mm standard Bunnings runners. I want everything as symmetrical as possible... I’ll be using 15mm ply for the carcass.
Thanks for the info everyone and keep up the fantastic work!
