OK lads all sorted. Couldn't stop thinking about this so I popped in hoping they will be open. Owner was there and he is a great bloke.
Spent considerable time explaning and showing me they are identical, same factory etc just marketed differently.

It is exactly the same now I have been shown. Feel totally OK now

Great guy and fixed the noisey relay whilst I was there even though he wasn't really open.

I think Hayman R should get there crap together and explain to customers the HR and Trailboss bars are identical it is just a marketing strategy to distribute through different partners with different brands so they can try and get more market share.

All they are doing is confusing people.

If anyone wants a towbar done PM me and I'll give you the guys who did mines details. Now I know the bars are the same I am happy and I will be using them again for sure. Customer service alone was fantastic.

That doesn't look like the way the HR bar is built. What's with the bird crap welds holding the trailer socket bracket on?

            Yeah right never noticed that.

Surely if a bar is made on the same line it is the same quality. It wouldn't make sense to say hey weld this one good but that one crap because they have to meet the safety/compliance requirements.

Yours are obviously much better. If I can see on of the HR bars up close I'm going to look at that.

Towing capacity doesn't exceed the manufacturers recommendation which is 2500kg with a 250kg ball weight

The rest of the welds look pretty good if you ask me. Granted that bit around the plug is a bit basic but the rest is good. Happy with it so far.

sorry to dig up old thread, can anyone confirm if the trailboss pictured above is the same mounting arrangement as the HR one?
how is the HR bar fitted to the vehicle?
                    thanks,
                    Scott.

looks the same to me, HR bolts as follows

4 x on plate middle facing rear
                      2 x underneath
2 x rear of middle plate between bar and car
2 x 2 x either side onto chassis of car

so OEM one has 6 bolts 4 facing rear and 2 under, HR one has 12 bolts

It's exactly the same. As i said its the same bar just branded differently so can be sold through other outlets. I have used it a few times now and it is no problems.
It wouldn't have to be much better to beat the genuine Toyota one.

I had an issue with the relays clicking when inidcators were in use but took it back and the guy insulated them and gave me a trailer plug converter for free so very happy with it all in the end.

Does anyone have pictures or more detail on the "2 x rear of middle plate between bar and car" I can't picture where these 2 are and what they bolt too.

                          Cheers Andrew

Could be wrong but are these where the Toyota one would bolt to. I looked under and directly above the tongue in the centre behind the bumper bar against the chassis cross rail is 2 bolts.
Not at home so can't take a photo at the moment.

I think those 2 are already accounted for, the 2 x underneath!

The six bolts used fo rthe Toyota hitch and the 4 bolts under the chassis rails where the tie down hooks bolt on are easy enough to work out, its the other 2 that I cant work out.

                              Cheers Andrew

They go into the back of the cross member, need to drill a hole and slide a nut on a piece of wire in there.
