Speaking with an ARB rep today - the word is that ARB is likely to release rated recovery points that fit the deluxe bullbars in the 120's and 150 series. ETA in about 6 weeks time. The rep stated there's a product code already assigned but didn't have permission to release it just yet... Might be telling porky pies but revived my hopes nonetheless.11/2007 Prado GXL D4D Auto BLACK Stock Option 1.

Lining up the nut plate, the bullbar mount and the recovery point on the other hand is another thing. I found a couple of pics for you.
I want to do the same thing, but haven't investigated on how to remove the bullbar captive nuts.'04 120 Petrol Flinders Red GXL

I have definitely heard the voice of the many on this forum that say the front "tie down" loops on a 120 are not recovery points!
My question is then why is the pin that goes through then end of the winch cable to attach the hook ok to use when it is smaller in Diameter that the "tie down loops?
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link after all.
I would think that the "Tie Down" loop would be stronger than the small pin held in place by a small split pin not much larger than a paper clip. After all they go through the chassis and are welded in place. They are as think as the bolts used to bolt a recovery point in place.

Also not all steel is the same, the pin on a winch hook would likely be a much higher grade than the tie down loops are made from. That pin would also be made to a standard, would have been tested and rated. the tie down points have no such testing or rating.
Ultimately its the weld that I see as the issue, nothing wrong with a weld as such, if its done to a suitable standard. But no one has yet been able to give me any info at all on any standard or testing that may or may not have been done to those points.
So it all then comes back individual assessments on suitability. The early model 120s had the loops welded underneath the cross member, that was a particularly bad design for recoveries and my observations of some of the welds on those points were that they were at best pretty ordinary.
the later models are certainly an improvement and may be OK, but there again I have observed a significant difference between the weld quality on different vehicles, some with sections of weld missing or only penetrating one piece of the steel not both.
As I have a said a few times regarding these points, what you I or anyone else thinks is good enough is irrelevant, its the guy going to recover you whose opinion counts.
Hopefully ARB do release a "rated" recovery point and then all these arguments are mute.

If in doubt, save your self some money, put a bridle around both of the lower control arms. Good luck trying to pull them off.Dave

Those are only good for people that run Sovereign bull bars, or stock bumpers.
As I have TJM T13, I need the 150 recovery points....dunno about ARB land though....'04 120 Petrol Flinders Red GXL
