  • Managed to mount up the compressor this arvo. Installed it up near the firewall on passenger side mainly because I was too lazy to extend the cables to the battery had I mounted on the drivers side firewall area (there is plent of room here on the petrol), but as it was I didnt have any spare cable anyway and I think I've spent enough already....It is a bit squeezy but should be OK. I have run the cable loom in corrugated conduit along the firewall to inside and fitted off the switch in the usual position below the side mirror adjustment controls. currently the only two mechs mounted here are the mirror mech and dimmer for lighting but neither of these switches are illuminated?. I will have to pull the dash apart tomorrow to get a feed off the 2nd start switch on the other side of the steering wheel as this is the next closest source.

    • out of interest how much are these worth + the hose (i think arb sells it separately?) they are mighty quick to pump up the tires for such little things

      Comment

      • RRP @ ARB is $290 for the compressor + $55 for the air hose only (no air chuck, thats another $49) ARB over here give a 10% discount for PPers...

        • I got a great deal at my local ARB and bought the compressor, hose kit, and the tyre pressure gauge for $298! I wouldn't buy the $49 chuck, you don't really need it. Just use your gauge. I also use the gauge to pressure down at the beginning of the day. It does 36pst to 18psi in about 30 secs... it's not the gauge that takes out the valve core too... don't like playing with that stuff!

Have to say though, once you've used an ARB ez deflator (Which pulls the core out) it'd be had to go back. It's a pretty impressive piece of equipment.

            • so the $55 air hose does not come with a pressure gauge? or is the $49 air chuck a tyre deflator with a tyre pressure gauge?

              Comment

              • The $55 hose kit comes with a hose and a standard chuck which bites into the valve screw thread and starts pumping. It will not stop until you disconnect it. For a further $49 you can buy the chuck with an incorporated pressure gauge. This means that you'll have to keep the button pushed when inflating the tyres, as opposed to plugging it in, standing up, waiting 1 minute and then disconnecting.

I reckon it's better to have a separate pressure gauge to check the pressure once you're close, and you can use it when airing down as well or just to check the pressure. You wouldn't use the pressure gauge chuck to check your tyre pressures.

                • Hi guys,

just got my car back from the panel beaters after 7 weeks and surprise surprise, the compressor no longer works! Lights on the switch don't come on and it's completley dead. I've checked all the wiring and fuses and everything seems to work. The illumination source (idle up button) work as the illumination on idle up button works, and the switch is wired to an ignition point, the same as the first post of this thread. Am I missing something and is there some kind of reset?

I was going to fix this myself this weekend as opposed to having to take the car back to the panel beater, but if I can't then I'll have to do that and get him to rewire it properly!

                  Cheers,
                  Loz

                  • Problem solved... The idiot panel beater put both the positive and negative cables of the compressor to the positive terminal of the battery!!! Bloody idiots!

A long overdue update on this.

I took my air hose back to ARB and they kindly replaced it "under warranty", despite the hose being 3.5 years old and warranty had long since expired. Nobody could understand what had caused the hose to perish in the first place, as it sits in a soft-cloth bag in the car 24x7. In any case, I'm taking no chances with the new replacement hose, and have decided to wrap it in split-tubing (which I had laying around). Turns out the split-tubing makes the hose slide more easily over itself, which in turn makes it marginally easier to unravel/ravel.

Good on you ARB!! It's companies who stand by their products that keeps me coming back for more kit. I'll be back.

Giving them a call this morning. Issue is I only need it from the switches to the first plug-in fitting. I have the relay, fuses and everything else all wired in. Hoping they will do me a solid and just give me that little section, else I'll just have to make something up.
