So I pulled off the cover from my Runva 11xp this afternoon just to have a looksee. Didn't find any arcing BUT I did find a light blue thin wire not attached to anything! I've tried to mark it with a blue arrow in the photo attached. I can't see where it's come from, no broken spade connectors on the terminals. It comes from the small black box at the front, near where the controller plug is, but where should it go to?
    Any ideas please?

Edit. I've just looked back up this thread and craigm's post #16 shows the same blue wire in the very last attached thumbnail, it also looks unattached? Can't supposed to be like that, could it??

Don't panic. That's an antenna cable for the wireless remote.

Aw bugger!, there should be a catalytic static ryzome attached to that! Is the winch winding in with a rhythmic flutter or variable pulsating hum?

Yup. I got all that shit going on in there. As its a 95 series, it's just naturally awesome whatever it does

A dedicated thread for runva problems. Not good

Problems with my Runva EWX 12000

well its been around 18months since i picked up and fitted the winch so time for some feedback.
As with many recovery items, they get quite infrequent use but when needed its often VERY NEEDED.

so at around the 12 month mark i noticed that the free spool on my EWX12000 was starting to be a little tough to pull on. It got to the point of requiring 2 people to pull the rope from the drum. I called up my place of purchase (Overland 4WD in Maroochydore) and spoke to one of their senior fitters / tech's. He suggested that occasionally the torque of modern winches can cause the winch to twist. He suggested just undo each of the 4 mounting bolts about 1 turn, then nip them up again.

I did this and all was good again...well until the next time i used the winch anyway. It became worse and worse until loosening and re-tightening would't fix it anymore. (18 months old at this stage)

So i spoke with the Overland again and emailed Runva regarding the problem. They sent through instructions on how to check the brake inside the drum.
but i figured if i'm taking the winch out i may as well give it to someone who knows what they are doing.

Dropped off the winch to overland on Wednsday morning and they said they would have a look and contract runva regarding it. Being mid november i was just hoping it back for chrissy
boy was i supprised when i got a phone call friday morning from Overland saying my winch was ready to pickup and was all fixed.

The Diagnosis was water in the drum.....humm i thought. then i remembered back to the email conversation i had with Runva Australia prior to purchase.

"We are able to give you tips on how to fully waterproof and seal your winch, in which yes it will be covered under warranty."
was the line that stood out to me.
"Once you have installed the winch, seal with silicone around all terminals, especially around the earth cable because that's where alot of stuff can get in the most"

which I did. however water had still got in. Maybe i wasnt liberal enough with the silicone? Overland had commented that the water was very clean. Was it from too much pressure while cleaning?
anyway, what's done is done but i was to be supprised once more. Overland had cleaned and linished rollers, re-greased and re-assembled. I picked it up and there was no charge to which I was most appreciative.

Refitted the winch again, used a 1/2 tube of silicone on all 3 terminals. Hopefully i don't have any more issues but I do have those emails from runva in my back pocket just incase.

All in all i must say Overland gave me great customer service and really looked after me.
The winch has never missed a beat while under power (in or out) just the free spool.

Would i buy again? at this stage I would have to say yes. If it happens again in another 18months? well it would depend on Runva's reaction.

                Runva EWX12000 Problem #2

So my Runva winch has experienced another issue. since I got it back from the first issue (Free spool) the clutch lever on the gearbox has been harder and harder to operate, requiring a mixture of running the winch motor, pulling on the cable and wiggling the lever all while standing on one leg, poking your tongue north.

So Overland 4wd (place of purchase) had a quick look while it was still fitted and confirmed an issue within the gearbox. A few emails later runva refused to ship a replacement gearbox out to swap it over. they said it must be removed and sent to Brisbane for assessment and repairs. if it was found to be water damage there would be a bill.

This is where I went into angry customer mode. I started emailing Runva directly quoting their original emails PRIOR to my purchase saying "Silicone the cables on the motor and the winch is waterproof and fully covered by warranty"

They did send the new gearbox out, I swapped it over and taking the old one back. looking at the old one I'm not even sure its water related, all the grease is still in good shape and not even discoloured

My Winch is currently around 18months old.

Now reading this thread I will be checking my control box wiring asap.
I do have an isolator installed that also acts as a bridge between my dual batteries
                (Pic Below)

It's a BEP 721 marine isolator that does 1500a for 5 seconds, 500a for 5mins on either single battery and will do 500a continuous on both
