No, at least not an easy way.

What you could do is buy the 3 bar set, then add 2x 2m length of HD bars and run them front to back. Attach the 2m bars to the front and rear bar and use the middle cross bar and bring it to the front - attaching it to the front end of the 2m bars. You can buy tophat brackets to join 2 HD bars at right angles to each other.

Just note that you can't put the front bar too far forward as the HD bar will flex under load. With my 2m bars, they overhang the front and rear bars by 300mm. there is a bit of flex when I stand on it.

You might want to contact this ebay sellerwho is selling 2m HD bars. There were no bids on it when the auction ended.

Re: Rhino-Rack HD Bars V's Genuine Toyota HD Bars

Tenon I carry my kayaks on my roofrack which is 1450 long overall. The roofrack is an old, old one and I mounted it on an ARB fitting kit. The end rails sit pretty much directly above the factory support points. The kayaks are 4.1m and 4.65m long. I guess you can work out what they are from that! No problems. I use the folding type vertical kayak mounts and the cockpits sit neatly inside the rack with the kayaks back to back. The overhang for the longer kayak is nominally illegal given that in Q the allowable maximum overhang past the rear wheel is 60% of the wheelbase. However given the kayak weighs very little (20 odd kg) I don't stress about it. Your kayaks are longer so you will have more hanging out the front and back but again I doubt that you will have an issue. I will dig up a photo of the kayaks on the roof and post it to give you an idea. Generally I carry the kayaks on my trailer but occasionally use the roofrack if it suits; the trailer is just more convenient because it is easier than throwing two wet slippery kayaks on the roof of a lifted Prado. Especially when it is windy.

      EDIT:

Couldn't find any pics of the two up there but that gives you an idea, the TK1 is 4.1m long. The Tidemark XP is 4.65m and sits about 300mm longer front and rear.

Re: Rhino-Rack HD Bars V's Genuine Toyota HD Bars

Thanks for the advice guys. Doesn't sound like it will be an easy one to solve but I'm thinking some sort of rack/frame attached to the bars that will extend the base to give me the distance I need between the kayak supports. If all else fails I might do something purposebuilt on the trailer.

        Cheers

Re: Rhino-Rack HD Bars V's Genuine Toyota HD Bars

Tenon I don't know what brand your kayaks are but having the bars 1.4m apart should be plenty to support the kayak either side of the cockpit. That's what I was trying to get across. The vertical supports for mine could be fitted to HD bars and the kayaks would be ok. My trailer body front and rear are 1820 apart and I use the same vetical arrangement and support the kayaks on their sides the same way. Talk with the manufacturer/supplier of the kayaks but you shouldn't need to make up anything special. Usually kayaks are stronger across the middle than up and down and transporting them on their side is preferable.

Re: Rhino-Rack HD Bars V's Genuine Toyota HD Bars

Thanks Michael, I take your point about the strength in carrying them side on and will try to do this. I haven't bought the kayak's yet but what I am looking at is the Q Kayak Shearwater Sea kayak or something similar and they are about 4.8 - 5.0 metres long. The manufacturers of most sea kayaks recommend carrying them supported at points at about a third of the length or around where the bulkhead is. Ideally that puts the bars about 1.6 - 1.7 apart, with about the same lenth hanging over each end. I just want to make sure I can carry them before I pick them up.

            Thanks for the advice.

            Cheers

Re: Rhino-Rack HD Bars V's Genuine Toyota HD Bars

              Michael,

How is your vertical member attached?

              Steve,

The Rhino HD bars is based on a unistrut design. So you can go into an electrical wholesaler and get them to get in some parts for you. As an example, Unistrut has several brackets to attach a vertical member.

And there's always Rhino kayak carriers. Chuck the kayaks on and they won't slip off while you try and tie them on.

The kayak carrier is clamped over the square aluminium tubing with 4 x 6mm stainless bolts. It folds down (clips in place) when not needed.

                  Customised Openend Tracklander

                  Hi Folks,

As stated last week, I have now picked up the alloy rack that Jaram (Perth) custom built for me. Well it only included adding in two new support rails to meet my requirements, but that's what they called it.

I wanted something that would attach directly to the factory rails and make maximum use of the available clamping length, it also had to be balanced fore and aft. See my sketch/picture below.

Dimensions are: 1800mm (l) x 1290mm (w) (1250mm internal). All up it has 11 support rails now!. Sticker attached says Max load is 200Kgs  .But I would not go over the factory recommended max of 80Kgs for the rails. The rack weights around 20Kgs.

Height - I did a quick measure to the highest rear point after fitting and it came in at around 2.1 metres. Might have to lower the air bags to get into some car parks here in Perth. Better still avoid the place and head bush

Cost: $1175 plus I supplied the HD Rhino mounts (got em at cost - Jaram wanted another $175)

As you can hopefully see from the pics it sits nice and low above the rails and the width will allow meet to put an Oz Tent RV5 (150mm) and rack sack (1220mm) side by side .

There is about 20mm clearance from the bottom of rack to the mid point of the roof rails - I think. To dark and wet to check out side at the moment.

I could have used the mounts from my Rhino Sportz bars but decided the extra clamping pressure of the HD mounts with 2 screws, was worth the insurance. Had to cut off the mount "wings" to enable the vertical locator to fit into the rack support bars so they could be clamped together using the Rhino flat nuts. This was the hardest part with very little room to move under the rack. I had to buy a 13 mm ratcheting combo spanner to do up the 4 bolts.

I borrowed this picture off PP (thanks to the originator) and annotated it to get my specs to the people at Jaram.

All up, I'm pretty happy with the result. Nice solid rack with even over hang front and rear and it seems pretty quiet so far.

                  Cheers,
                  Al

Re: Rhino-Rack HD Bars V's Genuine Toyota HD Bars

                    Afternnon All

Interested in the Toyota HD 3 bar set (100kg rating) - went to my local toyo and was quoted:

                    Part No: PZQ3060090

                    $290.50 each

So the price is on the ball but the part number is different from the number listed here on this discussion area (PZQ3060100).
Was told it was for the GX prado and he couldnt confirm that it would fit my GXL.
So was wondering if anyone has bought a set recently - what was the part number if not the above - or if it was the above did the fit straight on once i remove the north/south rails.

Unforetunately they need to order it in for me - i have to pay upfront - and no refund if it doesnt fit my GXL - hence my post because i hate parting with the $$$ and then been caught out.

                    Thanks Stephen

PZQ3060090 is the aerodynamic ones @ $290.40. Still available
PZQ3060100 is the heavy duty square section ones @ $313.50. Still available

Simply remove the north-south rails and either of 3 bar racks will fit straight on.
With my Toyota dealer, they never ask me to pay up front for things they have to bring in. I always pay on pickup.
Oh and don't be embarassed to ask for a 10% discount as well.

I spoke to my usual dealer for the info above.
Google also helped --> http://www.nunawadingtoyota.com.au/img/ ... ricing.pdf Go to pg 18 for Prado accessories.

Oh and I think the Aeroracks from Toyota are the ones that curve down to the legs. They don't extend past the legs like the Rhino RLCP. More like the Rhino RSP.

You went a bit quiet for a while so wasn't sure what your decision was. I was going to suggest that if you needed the extra HD bars, I can help to get the long length and cut it in half (as well as the Unistrut parts) and take it to Toyota so that they can put them in the same box as the roof racks to save on postage.
