I've tried searching through the posts about how people secure their UHF mic holders without drilling holes in the dash. I had an ICOM 440 installed by ARB recently though they left the mic holder to me.
I went through to our local 3M stockist to find out what adhesives could hold the mic holder to the dash. The guy at the store had tried various adhesives for his mate's Landcruiser for exactly the same purpose and said none of them withstood the weight of the mic coupled with the heat and vibration. I can see on the forum that some have made their own innovative brackets which avoid the need to drill holes. For those of us who aren't so deft, can anyone suggest any other methods (especially the adhesive methods ) that have worked ? I note Pedro's post about velcro, but that was for a reversing camera which doesn't get moved as much a mic.
If I did decide to go through with drilling the dash for the mic holder with the self tapping screws, which of the different types of plastics on the dash would be best ? and which would be best left untouched ?
Any help much appreciated.
