    Re: Under bonnet Air Compressor

Hi Matt I have the piranha tray for my second battery as it takes a 12 inch battery and the arb is only a 10 inch tray so I figured the bigger tray for the battery is better. I still havent put the air comp in but it will be going in the arb tray when it does.

Good enough reason for me mate, nothing wrong with a bigger battery!!! ARB tray it is for the compressor. Now all i need is the minister of finance to release the funds...

        Here's another ARB install

Don't try to figure out the crazy placement. I'm tfel hand drive.

You may want to consider a remote connector so you don't look like your broken down every time you air up.

          Re: Under bonnet Air Compressor

I recently finished the install of my new ARB air compressor, I used the ARB dual battery tray as the mounting point...
Many hours went into this - most of them watching paint dry - luckily I had a few beers on hand to help me pass the time!!!

Recent purchases CKMA12 air compressor, hose kit & battery tray... (Note: recovery kit not required for this install... )

Modified the oringal factory loom to get a little extra length for under the battery tray.

Test fit up of the ARB battery tray, required splicing some extra length on the fuel filter cables.

Drilled a extra 8mm hole to help with tighening the allen screws and a 32mm hole for the wiring loom entry.

Next i run in the ARB supplied wiring loom for the compressor, lining it up so the relay would mount on the firewall.

Fitted the battery tray (complete with compressor) back into place and started connecting the wires.

Made a custom bracket for the relay (extra relay shown if for the horn, and one spare point).

And a more or less completed project...

Its been tested for short durations, everything operates as required... Haven't had to do the tyres with it yet... YET!!!

          Cheers Matt.

My wife's first comment was "Why?". Well I was tired of lugging yet another box around in the back that I was always shifting out of the way to get at something else, and secondly "Why not??". The airline and tyre inflator now live in the plastic box with all the shackles and snatch straps that will fly all over the place if I have a stack. (Built-in drawers are high on the to-do list)

Mounted a relay under the bonnet and switched via a Narva switch under the dash. Next step is to plumb some airline front and rear so I won't even have to open the bonnet. My only real concern at this point is that the unit isn't waterproof, so we'll have to see what happens if it gets a drink from a creek crossing or something. Driving around in the rain recently there was no real problem with any moisture in that corner.

I have it rigidly mounted on a battery tray from SupaCrap, would like to source some of those aircon mounts I have seen that have two 6mm or 8mm studs with a rubber block in between to absorb any vibrations.

Dash mounted switch, only took a minute or so to file the plastic so it would fit.

            Mounted RHS behind headlight.

            Hello fozzy
I'm interested to know what you did to run your air lines to the front and back if you ended up doing so???

Fozzy I bought one of those compressors and during operation the cable got so hot the fuse melted resulting in a poor connection and no pumpy. A chit feeling in the back blocks I can tell you. When it worked it pumped like a demon but I have switched to an arb for reliability.
