  • Kaymar Rear End Finish

    Guys (and Ladies)

I am after some pictures of any quality finish to a fitted Kaymar rear to a 120. There is obviously some cutting in of this option but I expect some quality finish to this, but have only seen some half hearted efforts in real life.

Basically want the bar AND want a classy finish for the Grande as well.

    Thanks

    Rob (mlc)

I don't understand. Do you just want photos of a prado with a kaymar rear end?
Could always get one powdercoated to match the car as well? Being steel, it won't be curved etc like the prado, so it will always stand out though.

It is difficult to see the "cut" finish from these. What I am after is the "in your face detail" showing the bar meeting the cut remains of the old bumper.

Love the colour matching on Jeff's and will do the same on mine.

Mine isn't a Kaymar, but they replaced the whole rear bumper, as another option?
Otherwise, maybe PM Jeff for a pic.

As another option I was told that Powerful 4x4 are developing a 120 bar and expect to have stock by the end of September. Price indicators look to have it placed maybe $800 less than the Kaymar.

If you want photos of the plastic cut section I can take a few tonight and post them here. ( Kaymar)

Also Rob I heard that arb took 2 days to install the first SA Kaymar bar, 10 hours to do the second one.

They knocked mine out in about 6 hours. You can get both the bar and plastic enclosure painted but I was advised against getting the paint done as it quickly comes off at the latch.

If you want another look I'm happy to meet up sometime.

Gunnell, I have salivated over yours enough. lol. I was hoping to see other peoples too. I looked at an RAA vid today and their car seems to have a very different finish to yours, hence I want to see a few examples. Must say, seeing yours on the weekend gave me a h%&d-on and basically has brought forward the purchase. Interesting re the Powerful 4x4 comment, may have to sit tight.! How do you know about this?

And with all those LED Lensers you could have lit the whole place up for a great photo shoot too ;p

Its a little surprising that not one photo has been posted yet....... Surely Gunnel aint the only member with a Kaymar? Better pm Jeff.

I will hopefully get a chance to take some pics of my rear bar for you tomorrow.

Overall I'm happy with the design and fitment of the bar, where the original bumper has been cut there is probably 2-3cm gab to the bar, it is a little uneven from one side of the bar to the other. The Kaymar does stick out to the sides beyond the cut sections of bumper, so these will catch stones etc that get past the mud guards. I put some clear tape over these areas for my trip, and that mostly worked but the dirt eventually wore the tape away and took some small sections of paint off.
As for the paint. It does seem to scratch off easily, make sure they put tape under the latches on the bar, otherwise these will scratch the paint off whenever you open close the swing-arms. Also the ends of the handles rub away the paint as well, so some more tape there might be a good idea.

I had the car in for 2 days to get the bar, apparently it is a bit of a fiddly job to get it on.

Got some pics of the bar for you mlc:
Rear bumper cut, left hand side:

                          Right hand side:

Kaymar overhang, you can see where the paint is missing off the bottom, I reckon without the tape more would have gone:

This is how the wiring is run for the work light, and the same on the other side for the number plate light. It would have been good if they'd put a notch in the panel for the wiring, but it doesn't seem to have caused any issues:

Make sure this tape goes on. I had to chase Kaymar up for the tape, even though I was careful you can still see some scratches to the paint work from the latch:

This photo shows where the handle has rubbed through both the paint and powder-coating by the looks of it, I'd better do something about this one actually:

Despite these issues I'm still happy with the bar, if I didn't have a colour coded bullbar, I wouldn't have done the rear bar either. Considering the terrain it's already been through its stood up really well.

Crikey! Kaymar haven't exactly gone out of their way to make this bar fit, have they?

Pity, as their rear bar for the 100 series looks really good.
                              Rob.
