Pity, as their rear bar for the 100 series looks really good.
I'm with you on that one Rob. I've certainly seen better ones on Prados

      Better ones like what Treky?

This is the third Kaymar I have seen and the finish is the same each time. Unless there is a better option such as the 4x4 bar suggested above I will be getting this one. Make no mistake, I'm not impressed by what can only be described as a bad design. Contouring is not rocket science. I have seen CAD designing tell machines how to bend metal, its quite basic really so Kaymar have failed badly in the care factor.

Truth be knowm Jeff's s he best finish I have seen of the 3. The only exception is whatever RAA have done to their vehicle but I haven't seen that close up.

      Thanks Jeff

Would still like pictures of alternatives if possible. After all we ARE a crafty lot and I'm sure someone has made the bar look like a pro fit.

I meant other brands MLC - I'm sure the Outback accessories one fits better plus a colleague of mine in work has one (not sure what brand) that also fits better in my opinion. I'll send him an email and ask what brand his is and get back to you - I know it's not the Kaymar.

MLC, I've sent the email but in the meantime here are a couple of photo's. I notice it says 'Strongarm' on the back.

          Hope that helps.

Just got a price on the Strongarm - $3,480.00 inc GST fitted in case you are interested. You could always get one fitted in January when you are over here MLC.

I have found that the StrongArm carrier weighs approx 100kg ! - just for the carrier.

Anyone know how much the Kaymar one weighs? I really can't justify this sort of weight on the rear, and that's before adding the two spare tyres and rims to the total.
                    Rob.

Will do my friend but I don't know when he will be back in our office so it might take a few days.

Sorry to be pedantic here but you should only add one spare as you already carry one

Two more for you. He is very happy with the bar and used it on his CSR run with no issues. As you see he only has one of the arms on at the moment. His plan at the moment is to get a spacer for the left wheel mount so that he can put the second spare on with the first spare still on the door, he then plans to get a Jerry can holder for the right arm that will fit with the original spare still in place.

You will note he doesn't have a tow bar as he found he didn't have a need for one but you can fit an aftermarket tow bar to the rear bar - the Toyota tow bar will not fit. He keeps a shackle permanently on the left recovery point in case he needs to tow something unexpectedly but not on the right as it tends to get hot sitting behind the exhaust - that gets fitted when needed.

If you want close ups of any areas in particular just let me know

The bar has been on for over two years now and was on when he did the CSR last year. Not long after he had it fitted he was 'rear ended' on the road (drivers side) and there is some slight crazing of the plastic above the rear bar on the right near the Toyota reflector - not visible in the photo's and you can only see it if someone points it out to you so pretty good really.

Like I said, he is very happy with it especially as he got it as a show special for significantly less than they are now. He is very impressed with the guys who supplied it as well - they let him use their workshop to fit his dual battery system and let him use all their tools (all at no cost).

If I had the money I would get one of these for sure.

                                Trek.
Its a much better fit than the Kaymar. I must admit this rear bar this is doing my head in. This one fits nicely, the Kaymar appears to not stick out as far (therefore better clearance), and now I find out that amts is designing the ultimate rear bar for a 120, but expects this will take at least 2 years.

My gut feel is amts will produce a great result, BUT his 2 years will be 4 years ;p ....... what to do......
