Actually rally cars are exactly the opposite.. Made for strength and protection of vital bits above said plates.
If we wanted weight reduction we simply would not run them! They arent there in the first place, they are added for strengthening the underfloor areas and protection, they ARE made as a sacrificial item, we know that.
The forward slider/ bash plates ARE always made of Alloy, usually T6 and at LEAST 6mm in thickness. these are usually strengthened again by welding of 6-8mm Alloy "slider" ribs front to back along them.
I took an 8mm strengthened bash plate off the recovery truck last night that was snapped in half, right on the 3 foot wide bend that had 10mm plate strengtheners welded to it. snapped the lot 18mm thick!

I got plenty of destroyed and damaged ones here for samples :-)

Nice sounds like my type of bash plate since I'm on my second since Sep last year.
Also great to see someone my age also with a 120 prado was starting to think I was the only 1 haha
I also love your custom draws been looking around for some ideas for mine, also your sub have been trying to figure out where to put one in mine how did you find getting and putting back all those clips from the internal side panels ? I lost 2 or 3 when running the cables for my fridge
Will have to update my profile with pics of mine now was feeling abit out of place before reading your posts
