  • Hayman Reese heavy duty Tow Bar

Hi All Just purchased a new heavy duty Tow bar from hayman Reese to replace the Genuine Towbar for my 2008 Prado.
Went to the trouble of pulling the bumper bar off only to find the towbar didn't fit. I contacted Hayman Reese to be told that there are known issues with fitting this bar as there are chassis variations and they fit approx 50% of the cars only. They are currently redesigning this bar to fit all models. has anyone experienced this??

Hi D4D the part number is 02871RW . I returned it today for a refund they will let me know when a replacement Towbar is available. The towbar just wouldn't fit by probably 10mm on 2 holes i wasn't willing to do any grinding or force the bolts in as i'm sure some installers will be doing this to get the sale.

Has anyone seen or have the towbar for the 120 that is fitted like the 90 series was, it went from one side to the other side and is fitted to the side rails rather than how the toyota one is now in the centre? I have seen them on ebay and also listed elsewhere on www and from memory the company that produces them is in Adelaide area. Their website said they did freight all over Oz and had a price for delivery. I cant remember details as I have since changed computer due to it having a meltdown and lost the details in my "favorites".

          Hi PradOz
Thats the type of towbar i got from Hayman Reese it went from one side to the other as well as using 4 mounting bolts where the genuine one is fitted. it looks great but just didn't fit.
the other problem is that the cutout on the bumper is much larger on the genuine towbar so if you are replacing for a genuine bar expect a gap around the hitch

Thanks, that is the part # of the towbar I plan on getting.

My understanding is sometimes they're a tight fit and fitters use pry bars to get them to fit...

yep same here, they will fit with a bit of persuasion had a pig of a time with mine but fit fine once i worked out how to do it

All i did was use a jack up against the back of the car and tie a rope to the tow bar and use the jack to pull it forward. It only needed about 5mm or so to get it right. Once it was in the right spot it fit easy as. Have had it on for a few months including an 1100klm trip towing our 2.3T caravan and it hasn't moved or anything and all still tight as.
