Recently I fitted a 2” dobinson lift to my 120 and was getting a clunk from the front end. It only happened when I drove over a speed hump with both front wheels at the same time. I spent a few hours looking for the cause without avail. Today I decided to readjust my bulbar mounts as the sides of the bar were too close to the mudguards for my liking (after the cradle mount recall done last year by our local Toyota dealer). After removing the bar leaving the cradle in place I noticed this..


The strengthening angle plate is hitting the body front apron cross member on both sides. This strengthener is replaced with the mount recall, whoever designed this setup didn’t give enough clearance for body movement. It wasn’t noticeable with the standard suspension, only when I replaced the springs and struts firming it up it became obvious.
There is no way to adjust the position of the plate to give it more clearance, so I modified them with the grinder.


The plates are pretty easy to remove, they are only held in place with three bolts each. It might pay to check yours as well.
