well picked up the car today.
    new door looks good.
Ill get some pics and it looks like there are some very visible spot welds down the inside near the hinges. Hope they come out in the pics.
I cant remember them being there before..

well I can only comment on my door, and its a bit younger than yours, but it was 100% warranty. And whats the use of extended warranty if it they pull that stuff???

I took some more pics with the new door on, they look as if they put more spot welds down the inside of the door around the hinges.

a little hard to see in pics but there are spot welds in this pic. one just below the rubber conduit, and above the hinge. behind and below the hinge as well.

A few here as well, but easier to see.
I cant remember seeing these on the old door.

        Good luck B Hilly...
        Jeff.

Good to see the good outcome Jeff! Could have been the mud hiding the last spot welds though.

Thanks for letting us know all about your back door Jeff!

Isn't there a 5 year perforation clause in the standard Toyota warranty anyway? I see being a 2003 model this may already be up though.

                  What a bargain.............. NOT

Mine wasnt that bad. It has to be welded closed, not just "re-sealed".
I like the "45 min repair", if its that easy, why wouldnt you do it?????

                    Re: My Rear door crack

I have the same issue with mine ( 2005 Prado GXL), cracked along the lower hinge. Warranty expired 2 weeks ago, brought it in today and Toyota will pay for the door and 50% of painting. The dealer said I need to deal directly with Toyota if I want to get them to cover all of it. When I rang Customer relations they won't let me speak to warranty. I was told I was lucky Toyota were willing to cover this much and if I did push to have the warranty dept look at this again the chances are they would withdraw this offer. The person I spoke to was very agressive which surprised me, they started off by calling me an unhappy customer, never asked for my name or any details and continued to call me an unhappy customer even when I expalined i was just a customer who wanted to discuss an issue with them. Rather than get into a useless argument with them I just said I'd call back when I had done some more research. I was thinking of taking out an extended warranty but after their attitude I think I'll look elsewhere!

If anyone still has the Toyota notice sent out in Europe I'd be grateful if they could post it again - be very interesting to see what that says!! I must check out the 5 year warranty info as well - hopefully this will give me some extra info. I've been happy with the Prado but the attitude of the customer releations centre today left a lot to be desired.

                    Thanks,

                      Re: My Rear door crack

My 2005 model has recently developed a crack behind the lower hinge also. I took it to my local dealer this morning who took some pics and then sent me to a panelbeater up the road to obtain a quote to repair it so that they can lodge an "Out Of Warranty Consideration" with Toyota as the car is about 4 months out of warranty so I'm keen to hear the response.
When I said that I had heard that Toyota were replacing the doors with a stronger one, the guy said "not this model, it's the earlier ones"The door had sagged as well but I have fixed that myself so I am hoping that Toyota will come to the party and at the very least, repair it . I noted that both the service advisor and the panelbeater knew exactly where to look for the crack when they opened the door so they were fully aware of the problem. In fact the panelbeater commented that mine was only minor compared to some that he has seen, with some cracks extending half way up the door.

                        Re: My Rear door crack

Just heard back from Toyota dealer this morning. Toyota have offered to pay for about half the cost of replacing the door, which equates to around $980.00. The guy from the dealer did say that because they have no service history on my car (I have not taken it to them before), if I provided proof of the service history ie the service and warranty handbook, complete with all the services completed, they may be able to push for Toyota to cover more of the cost.
                        The saga continues :?

I'll let you know how I go - all my service work was done by the dealer so I'm hoping they can push that.

Well, I reckon I've had a win with this one.
Toyota have come back with a counter offer and have agreed to pay for all parts and half of the labour cost which leaves me having to pay only $400.00
It's now booked in and ready to go soon as the new door etc arrives.

                              Well done Dobbo.

That is certainly a big improvment from where you started. Curiously, what caused them to come back with the counter-offer? Were they just being nice 8) or did you have to play hard-ball :x ?

                                Re: My Rear door crack

                                LFR,
They asked to see the service history handbook, which showed that all but 4 services had been done by a Toyota dealer. The rest had been done by a local 4WD service centre.
I guess this satisfied them that the car has been regularly serviced and looked after.
Also there has not been a single warranty claim made on the vehicle since new.

I might add that I bought the car with a 3 year extended warranty but I didn't like to be dictated that I had to drive over an hour each way on a Saturday morning just to have them service it. Particularly after they charged me $120.00 more for a 60k service which is basically the same as the 30k, even after I had changed the oils and filters myself. It also made me burr up to watch some pimply 19 year working on my car and test driving it when he had finished.

Whatever the reason, I'm pleased with the outcome.
