so, back to my original question regarding the car I saw in Perth (which was not the photo - I found that on google) ... does anyone actually know if this is available in Australia, or is it as Leachy suggested, an import from NZ, or perhaps elsewhere?
btw, the one I saw did not have the wing mirror up front.
just interested - I like the tyre on the back (although I am convinced that the weight must add to the sagging) and couldn't bear to lose the 180L tanks

Same in Dubai
G'day mates
Same here in Dubai
This door configuration sells with the Grande
One will lose the spare fuel tank completely so 90 L and that's that
-whilst in the LC200 you still get 90+35L configuration-
The rear wheel is stuck underneath the car , access to is through a notch in above the rear door scuff plate where one uses a lever to rotate and drop the spare
Very awful if you are stuck in a muddy trap and you need a spare change
Also , less range for the car , and forget about the spare rim condition because of the shrapnels that keep hitting the light-alloy while driving off road. 8)
Only non serious 4W'lers will own this model here

If you go to NZ Toyota website via link below, you can view their version of the Prado with new rear door (minus spare wheel). If you then check the specs for that vehicle, everything looks pretty much the same except the fuel tank is only 87L.
I don't care how the car looks with less than half the fuel tank capacity I would not consider it for Australian conditions!

From what I have heard, this is the design that conforms with current European design rules. They tell me they are not allowed to put a fuel tank behind the rear wheels in case the petrol explodes in an accident (which has never actually happened - especially with a diesel).2007 Prado GXL, Silver, D4D manual

Re: new rear door design?
Looking at the brochure carefully here:
http://www.toyota.co.nz/NewVehicles/Mod ... ochure.htm
it is obvious the wheel-less rear door still opens sideways.
What a shame it doesn't open like a hatch....I was hoping perhaps the new 2010 Prado had a lift-up tailgate.

Re: new rear door design?
If you run a roof rack basket or something similar Fishnut, you can store your wheel up there. then you got the best of both worlds. :mrgreen:My 2007 D4D Flinders Red Buildup - HERE
