Yes, the old CT18 is an awsome chrome/alloy cleaner, no need for polishing, regular cleaning and shes lovely

I'm a bit cautious of this stuff given the following post on page 13 of Little things:

Are you speaking from personal experience? From everything I've read you can use it on anything, including rubber.
Experience, it's stripped all the wax and dulled the paint surface of the Mav, the tyres have gone a black/grey colour. I still use it on the Mav, wouldn't let it go anywhere near the Prado...
Can anyone shed anymore light on this issue?

Re: Tips a nice shiny sovereign bullbar?

I had a mitsubishi MWB diesel van from new, paid 30k for it. I clocked up 300k on it as a courier for 5 years. I used CT18 on the body and the ocasional carwash. I used to get guys say, "Is your van new Justin ?", nope !, there jaw dropped everytime I told em how old the van was. The steel wheels and chrome outer addon were the same as the day I bought em, minus a few scratches here and there, but looked new.

I cannot condone using CT18 on your 60K prados gents, but I have used it once so far and no problems. Time will tell of course 8) but my mitsi van is testament of the quality of the product. The prados plastics might be different and the alloy bar may be of concern to me for long term use, but we will see.

I am not affiliated with the product, just a happy customer of many years.

Re: Tips a nice shiny sovereign bullbar?

Very interesting. The shine on my sovereign was absolutely killed the last time it went in for servicing. A few sessions with both Meguiars NXT and Autosol have got it looking ok but you can clearly see that something has dulled the alloy in spots. I wonder if it might have been some type of washdown product they used. Never happened before at service time though.....

i would have been straight back to the dealer and telling them to fix it.

Re: Tips a nice shiny sovereign bullbar?

Yeah Hutch I very nearly did go back but I had other things to worry about at the time so alas it never happened. I have a list of issues from my last service to chat about when I go back and the bullbar will be one of them. If that happened to my bullbar then god only knows what it's done to the paintwork. Seems ok now but I'm still left to wonder. Close to going to another Toyo dealer closer to where I work anyway, not entirely happy with the current mob.

Re: Tips a nice shiny sovereign bullbar?

Has anyone bought a Powerball in Perth?? Seems there are no Autobarns' over here and I was going to get to some serious polishing this weekend. All I get with Web searches are damned lotto winners!!!! Might see if the usual suspects have it, Repco and Supercheap.

EDIT: Ok I picked up the Mothers Powerball Mini (tennis ball sized) at Supercheap in Osborne Park. $60.00. Ouch. Get them from the websites mentioned earlier in the thread. I saw them for $40.00 on the web with some searching over the weekend. They work really well though. Just need to get the drill revs right so the metal polish doesn't fly all over the place. Did a good Autosol session until I drained both batteries in my cordless drill. They weren't exactly fully charged though. Damn but I got some shine happening..... 8)

Mj you could well be right with that. You also get that black gunge when polishing plastics too. Some type of chemical action going on? You really don't need much rubbing for that gunge to appear so the oxidizing theory could well be right.

Spot on i think, same happens with copper, brass, silver, etc. All oxidise on contact with air. I believe the aluminium oxide has a higher melting temp than aluminium, one of the reasons aly is difficult to weld.

A mate at work said he uses a product called "Purple Polish" on his alloy, says it brings it up a treat. May have to do some further investigation about the product.

Used the liquid form of Autosol on my alloy barwork on the weekend - came up fairly decent. I don't think it had been done in its lifetime so I couldn't expect it to be perfect, and it was difficult getting in and around the spotties, but yeah, pretty pleased for a cost of about $12. Only used about a third of a bottle too. But make sure you have a fair few cloths - I went through 3 of them!

Have used CT18 on my white 07/2003 GXL since new. Had the paint treatment done before/at purchase, got covered in wet tar on the Newel hwy at 2 months old, washed it down with petrol then kero to remove the tar, then washed with CT18 and has been done with it all around Aus on 2 trips so far.
As said in an earlier message, people think the car is new (now 6 years old) apart from Alumimium bar which was buggered by bore water, along with side and rear windows (pitted). The paintwork has the same smoothe feel of a newly polished car and it has NEVER seen polish.
Have polished the bar back to new on two occasions with some unbranded cleaner/polisher bought at a farm field day, but couldn'tbe bothered any more as it only lasts until the next crappy water hits it again.
Also use the CT18 on the wifes new blue Honda Jazz with the same results, along with the 22ft Jayco aluminium sided caravan.
All 3 look as new still.

No, don't work for em, sell anything, just retired and lazy and use the quickest method for cleaning all the transports.
