  • Steel side steps, do they make them?

G'day all, I'm new to the board, so this is my introductory question. Does anybody do steel side steps/sliders for the Prado 120? My dearest wife did a little bit of re-modelling of the stock standards on the passanger side, and, yes, I probably could do some repair work to sort it out, but I'm taking this as a chance to upgrade to some steel ones if at all possible.
I've never liked the flimsy feeling standard steps, as I'm no light weight anymore (if I ever was). Any help appreciated. I tried a search for topics on this but didn't come up with anything that helped. I'm after someone who does this in the North Brisbane or Redcliffe area. Not a back yarder though...Not too trusting of those these days.

Thanks for the link Mike, but it ain't exactly 'round the corner for me to go to Melbourne . I would prefer a local (Brisbane/Redcliffe) company/workshop. I agree, those sidesteps do look good on the second link you posted.

ARB have some steel steps - don't have them so don't know what they are like

Yes I know, but I want to try to avoid any extra costs as much as possible. As it is, it's looking like a custom make job, and that won't be real cheap I don't think.

freight from melbourne to cairns for a set of autocraft sliders only cost $88, fitted them myself in no time.

Re: Steel side steps, do they make them?

No TJM nor ARB make their steel steps for Prado. Got the run around from TJM and got put onto a custom maker by ARB. As it now appears, what I want will have to come from Melbourne and will still be cheaper. Toyota genuine step replacement is almost the same cost as a set of steel and alloy better quality steps...Un-bloody-believable. Thanks for the help and advise.
Another question will Dave McRae's steps add dramatically to the weight on the suspension? Already got a TJM steel bar up front. Will I be looking at upgrading the springs with this new addition? Yes I know it would be a good idea, but I don't want to have to do it if it isn't necessary yet. I want to wait for the addition of the winch before I do that.

nothing dramatic, I had no worries lifting them and carrying both together around the workshop unaided.

Ordered a set of Auto Craft slider/steps as of yesterday. After seeing the photo's Darren emailed me, I'm keen as mustard to get these things on. Snorkel and a set of Lightforce 240XGT's are next on the list, followed by a suspension upgrade/ 2" lift kit and a winch. That should do it for the time being I reckon.

Here is the link for my new sliders from 2DExtremeFabrications down south of Brisbane. You will need to leave the car there for about 3 days but at a cost of $920 installed, I think they will do the job.

Thanks Gordon, I like the look of the Auto-Craft sliders better, no offence, just suits my tastes more. Thanks for the link to the pics, they do look nice.
