  • Roof rails?

My 08 Standard doesn't have roof rails, but I quite like them, both appearance-wise and functionally. I've enquired lots of places but it seems they are near impossible to get, and Toyota's price for them new is completely off the planet. Anyone know of a source? Alternatively, if anyone in Perth is taking theirs off to put something else on, please talk to me!
White 08 Standard with ABS/cruise option pack, D4D/6-man, std 6" steel rims with Cooper AT3 235/70R17s, added roof rails, bullbar, towbar, ScanGauge II, custom-built aux power pack, Bushman multi-capacity fridge on slide, on DIY removable false floor. Often towing an Ultimate camper-trailer.

    Hi,

Try EBAY, there are a few after market ones advertised on there.

    Cheers

Yep Ebay is the go...... BUT

Be careful, I bought an aftermarket set that were absolute crap, and re-sold them.

I found a member here that was selling a genuine set and bought them. I have seen genuine ones on Ebay.

      These look genuine......

I'm considering selling mine but also undecided as I would like to put the rails back on the car before I sell it as I have spent a bit of time and $$$ on my roof platform.

Have you considered buying the 3-bar heavy duty bars from Toyota and bolting them on? They are also available in the aerodynamic types and can be bought also from a RhinoRack dealer.

          Re: Roof rails?

Just spoke to Scarboro Toyota to get a price on some racks. I have the rails and enquired about the options or two bars connected to the rails or three bars in place of the rails. The helpful lady in parts advised me that it was better to leave the rails on because trying to get a set for resale was expensive to the tune of about $1500. Don't know how true this is but it is interesting all the same. I was going to replace the rails with the three bars for height reasons, but I will have to rethink. Good luck finding someone that wants to part with a set if they are at this price.

Just like it to be known, I have a set and will sell them for a lot less than that if anyone is interested. Not actively looking to sell them, but they are there if you want them.

These are the standard rails off my 08 GXL.

Mate I hate to state the obvious but don't sell them if you put the 3 bar system on. Hold on to them and re-install them when you sell

Agreed! Don't know how true the price is but they probably fit the three bars and resell the rails. Good business to be in.

Thanks everyone for the inputs. I have corresponded with member photoprado and we have struck a deal - the rails are on the way as I type. Ebay? Who needs Ebay? What a great resource PradoPoint is!

Bad luck. Only the quick and the dead here!
But keep looking - I'm sure you'll find some somewhere. Somebody here suggested asking at places that do fancy 4WD roofracks, in case they had some that had been taken off to be replaced with something else. That didn't work for me, but might for you. If you get lucky that way you might get some for almost nothing.

Anybody want to sell the rubber strips that they originally had prior to putting on roof rails?
