  • REAR DOOR LEAKING DUST

Hi everyone this is my first post. I've got 04 gx td and the rear door
leaks dust . On a trip outback last year the dust was so bad after a period of time you could hardly see the radio read out. When I got back I left
the interior as it was, I took it to the dealer, even they were a bit shocked all they did was put new tailgate rubber on. I was just wondering whether any one else has had similar problems .

    G'day Rally1 - welcome to PradoPoint.com!

My '05 Pilbara hasn't had any rear door sealing problems, yet. I wonder if it was a combination of the door being slightly out of adjustment, resulting in not enough pressure on the rubber seal?

Is it fixed now - have you been on a dusty track yet to prove it?

For a change - dusty tracks are hard to find here in the Mountains at the moment, we've had so much rain - all my tanks are full and I'm pumping water into the paddock. What a contrast to six months ago.

    Cheers,

    Drew.

Welcomeaboard Rally1! havn't had any issues with the seals of the prado but did have a pretty bad leak in an old corolla... the back seats used to be covered in dust with the exception of whee people's heads would be! Was the door seals in that case so hopefully replacing them should fix it up!

Half your luck! dry as buggery up here still! although there's a few random showers around at the moment... only enough to make the car dirty!

The dust problem is there still but not as bad . On the trip i found there
there was a whole chanel behind the bumper bar with holes in it which
leads right into the jack storage area so i plugged that up was better
but still nowhere near perfect toyota put a new door rubber on but you
can still see dust sits on the rear trim . I have been told a lot of QLD dealers are having issues with dust due to the spare wheel on the
back door causing the door to move more and loose its sealing on the door rubber ?. My fear is next we go outback the same problem will
happen due to vast distance on dirt besides there is no adjustment on
the rear door as far as i could see and toyota confirmed it

The fact nobody has chimed in, me included, with a similar experience may indicate it's just something about your vehicle. My 03 spends a lot of time on gravel, and as long as the windows are up and air on fresh there is little or no dust getting in. Can you compare yours to another Prado? Perhaps park side by side and have a good look around. My experience with dealers isn't very good, they never seem to make much effort, so you end up being self-reliant for things like this.
          Good luck finding the problem.

We just got back from a pretty big trip (about 2000 K on dirt and corrugations).
There were only small amounts of dust just inside the rear door on the plastic trim and just on the carpet.
And we were kicking up heaps of dust.
The only time we got dust on the dash quickly was with window down driving.
But we did notice that with the vents set to fresh and around other cars/ trucks it did suck a bit in that way.
Particularly noticeable if the vents were set to recirc for a day and then switched to fresh.
WHOOOOOSHCAR. Dust in the face then big time.

            Jeff.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

I was told have windows up air con to recirc flat out.
Positive pressure helps to stop dust getting in. :?

If using on recirc you will get more dust in due to the fact that when driving there is a positive pressure outside the vehicle & on recirc there is a negative pressure which allows the dust to enter past seals easier. Hope this helps.

I've just been replacing my trailer wiring, and so had a good look at all the grommets behind the bumper, some of the came out pretty easily. You said you had a look but are they all in place?

                    Leaky rear door seals

                    Hi guys, i'm a newbie here..even a newbie in the 4x4 world.

recently i got myself a '03 GX model, runs nice and excellent condition...

however i found out something today...its been rainy these few weeks..and i got a little surprise. There seem to be a puddle of water somewhere in the right corner of the rear compartments...

I traced this leak to be from the upper plastic channel trims, top left upper corner. in between these two trims there's a gap where the water flows out continuously.

Now i traced where the source is..is actually from the same rubber surround as mention in the earlier thread...it's just not pressing hard enough on the body panel to prevent water seeping through..

anyone has this similar problem and a workaround? i bet getting a new rubber seal wont be a long term solution...

My 04 GX is leaking water at the tail gate and the rear carpet is soaked. I can't find the leak, but the inside of the rubber door seal is wet at the bottom where it slides over the metal. the outside of the seal is dry though.
Has anyone got any idea how to fix this?

Is it possible that someone tried to wash the rear window and the rubber feed line from the wash bottle is broken or come off the spicket in the rear door? Hence each time you try to wash the rear window with the wiper it poors out and into the rear compartment.

Good point mav, but I didn't wash the rear window, it happens when it rains. I took out the rear carpet and removed the rubber seal to dry and put it back in. The next time it rained, bingo, the inside of the rubber seal was wet again.

Have a look at the top of your rear door, a friend of our was missing the top rubber bump stop. When you look you will see a hole where the bump stop should be, this can let water into the rear door as it is out side of the rubber seal.

If you want I m will post some photos
