I would suggest you check the Toyota handbook thoroughly, I beleive that DOT3 is the preferred fluid in all Toyotas, especially those with ABS & "Downhill assist"

if you don't do power braking always, then i doubt if you'll notice any difference because the main difference between DOT3 and DOT4 is the higher boiling point of DOT4. Both are polyethylene-glycol based fluids. and so is DOT5.1

in the US, most new cars are using DOT4.

Got the Bendix 4WD pads installed on the front brakes of the LC120, just a few minutes back. Bite has improved significantly, happy to say. Definitely more confidence driving the Prado now.

Will drive home tonight and subject the pads and the DOT4 fluids to more brake testing. It'll be a city drive, but I'll surely be able to find some places to test those brakes.

In regular city driving, good bite, no fade. Seem to be getting some fade in pedal to the metal driving with heavy braking.

The new shape Bendix 4wd pads with "stealth" technology appear to have a lot less pad material contacting the disk. Not sure if they'll have the same performance as the old pads that were flat not tappered.

I have found Bendix 4wd to be pretty good. My only gripes with them are they aren't brilliant till they are hot, which is good for 4wds with traction control (which I don't have) and I find they are real noisy after playing in the mud.
