  • Rear discs binding

I've fitted new rear discs and pads and since complete the pads are binding and causing the rotors to get very hot. Admittedly I've only completed approx 100Km but it doesn't 'feel' right. The floating set up doesn't seem to allow for the extra thickness of the new pads/disc and the pads are in contact with the disc even with the brake disengaged. Anyone able to offer any tips advice?

I've checked the handbrake tension, fixings and removed excess fluid from the reservoir but I'm a bit stumped.

It may sound stupid but are they definitely the correct rotors?

Assuming you have released the hand brake as indicated, remove caliper,
using a "G" clamp push piston all the way in. If necessary back of bleed nipple
to allow piston to fully retract. Leaving piston clamped do the other piston.

When both have been fully retracted re-assemble, pads should have plenty of
      free travel.

Once re-assembled pump pedal to take up slack.

      Hopefully should solve your problem.

      Cheers

Thanks for the reply. After fitting them initially and having the same problem I removed caliper and pushed piston back, re-assembled but the result is the same. There is plenty of free travel until the brake is applied for the first time. I'm thinking that the 'retainers' in which the pads travel may not be allowing the pads to 'back off' ??

The "O" rings in the piston are what normal back the pads off when you release the
            brake.

How old is the car, any chance of rust in the caliber?

Also any air in the system?

Thanks for the replies. After a bit of head scratching and dismantling/re-asseembly it appears to be fine now.
