  • Brake fluid disappear!!!

    Hi all

I have a strange problem with my 2004 Prado aut. , few weeks ago i notice that brake fluid it under min limit and I put fluid till max limit and afer two weeks again the brake fluid disappear.

So I'm going to local Toyota dealer ( that's mean Bucharest Romania) and conclusion is that I must to change the Master brake pump and servo brake pump !!! with a cost aprox. almost usd 2000

Strange because i don't have any leaking every brake component it's ok

What do you think about this problem?

    Thank you

    Hi burraz,
If you cannot see a leak at the master cylinder or ABS Pump in the engine bay check in the car at the top of the brake pedal where the Master cylinder piston rod travels for leaks, the carpet and backing will be wet if you have a leak and very corrosive to the car body.

If all OK on Master cylinder, check under car for leaks at all wheels slave cylinders and the Brake proportioning valve located above and connected to the rear the rear axle/ differential housing.

    Hope this helps

has the recall been done on the brake master cylinder float? or whatever it was..

it was some seal they replace as it can cause loss of brake fluid or something along those lines anyway

Good call Matt .... I'm sure the recall was on the O-ring seal between the fluid reservoir and the master cylinder body. If this is where it is leaking I would expect to see some evidence of brake fluid on the underside of the master cylinder towards the firewall. You would need to be a contortionist to see under there but you should be able to reach under and feel if there is traces of leaking fluid.

        Cheers

There was a recall on some brake boosters, mine was one of them, caused by "o" ring failure in master cylinder.
With that much fluid loss you should be able to see it very easily.
'Maybe ' the fluid is being sucked into the vacuum line and being burnt in the exhaust, if you can not see any indication of oil.
