I don't do any towing so real brake fade is not really an issue . It would be nice to have cross drilled for heat dissipation but can't see the point if they crack and there may be issues with mud and crap . As for slotted v standard , haven't decided yet , it will probably come down to cost as the prado needs some lovin . Basically I've warped the rotors from coming home from the beach and washing off the sand and salt spray off before the rotors have cooled enough .03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

Steering shudder whilst braking
Hi,
I own a 2003 Prado at 250,000 km. The car is pretty stock standard just with your bull bar, roof racks and side steps nothing flash. When I apply the brakes I get a shudder in my steering, this happens at any time I am breaking regardless of what speed I am travelling. Also prior to the shudders. I recently had my vehicle serviced, before I did a road trip of about 9000k's and was also towing a caravan. However have had no shudder issues, it was only after I returned home and about a week or two later I started receiving these shudders. During my service I also had a RHF axle seal replaced, as I wasn't there whether if they removed my tire to do this and replaced the tire with the incorrect torque and this may have caused my rotors to warp?
I have searched online posts, which has led me to believe that the steering shudder whilst braking could be caused by warped rotors? If anyone could confirm this or shed some light on this for me It would be very appreciated.
Cheers Ty,

Best to replace the rotors if they are still the original ones.

Definitely sounds like warped discs. Prados are also bad for warping on the rear but normally will only get a pulse obviously from pedal only. Depending in how much you want to spend as replacing front and rear rotors plus pads will probably cost you a fair amount. I would get slotted only NOT crossed drilled as well. You will certainly notice the difference in braking performance and yes I definitely 100% would be doing pads as well as rotors as pads would be bedded in to suit current rotors.... Cheers. Thanks guys for all your input much appreciated. Yeah definitely doing the front slotted rotors with new bendix pads, will be looking on ebay and comparing prices. I will be doing them myself so it should save a lot of money on labour costs. I'll check the rears as well and ill most probably do them as well even tho I'm not getting any pulsing on the pedals but I just like to keep everything the same abit obsessive I know lol...
Cheers,
Ty

Replacement of front Disc Rotors with 4WD Disc Rotors
DBA rotors and bendix 4x4 and I find no issues in all driving styles.
Never had them fade, or any issues when cold.Last edited by Piggy; 23-03-2014, 03:55 PM.
