  • Drilled/Slotted Brake Rotors on Prado 120

    Hi guys,

Has anyone installed drilled/slotted brake rotors on a Prado 120 (or a 4x4 for that matter) and how does it perform?

I'm looking into replacing the rotors on my Prado and if these drilled/slotted rotors are any good, it might be worth while installing.

    Thanks.

Drilled are no good. Slotted are better. There are now slotted and dimpled rotors.

2nd for no drilling. They have a tendency to crack. I personally have slotted on the front of my 90 and every other car I've owned usually gets the same. Never had dimpled for any other reason except... I just haven't used them. But slotted is a must for me.

Under normal braking conditions there is no difference for me. But I live in a very hilly area and riding the brakes to maintain speed is a must as downshifting doesnt always help... its in these conditionsI notice a difference. When I get to the bottom of a hill. I can stop before the stop sign! Previously, it was anyones guess as to when I'd pull up. Especially with a trailer of any form.

I have slotted and dimpled RDA's up front. They're a bit noisy (the main thing I noticed when I installed them) but you stop noticing after a few days. My front brakes didn't feel any better after new rotors and Bendix 4wd pads, in fact on cold mornings the brake feel was worse. The pedal feel is good when the brakes heat up.

Just fitted new rotors to mine but just got standard DBA not slotted (slotted were couple hundred more and sales man said didn't need them even though he had them in stock) i put in bendix 4wd pads. If any one wants standard rotors I have a set which I took off not a thing wrong with them, no shuddering or any thing I just changed them cause I wanted to. There free if any one wants them but they need to pick up other wise I'm just going to bin them. I did place an add in the for sale section (free) located Penrith NSW

Generally there is no need for drilled & slotted rotors on Prados.
Just a good quality set of rotors & pads is the go & a good fluid flush every 2 years.
So don't waste your money, unless of corse you have too much
Drilled rotors can crack more easily, slotted can be hard to machine well.
But if your loaded you can just scrap them each time you have problems, which will be a long time with dba t2 or t3.

We have slotted and dimpled rotors on the front and back (unsure of brand, they were on it when we bought it). Also run Bendix 4wd pads.
