The 120 brakes are great for one or two hard stops, but get too enthusiastic and you'll hear the fat lady sing

Genuine pads are very good at light application, but ont put up with heavy weights/big tyres/hard stops, and fade quickly.

For the above applications we generally see better km from the aftermarket pads than genuine.

We get customers with up to 120k km out of factory pads, and I generally get around 20-25k km out of rears and 40-45k out of front pads, and 4 sets of pads to a set of rotors, but only get 12-15k km rear and 28-32k km out of front genuines, and the genuines once below half worn, and getting hot starts to really eat the linings on the pads.

How do I improve the stopping distance and brake pedal feel of my 4 wheel drive?

Answer: By using DBA Slotted Rotors (Left & Right handed) or DBA Gold (cross-drilled & slotted).

Just ordered a front set of DBA Gold Slotted and Cross Drilled Rotors for the front of our Prado...and a set of Bendix 4WD pads...

Hopefully the rig stops better now...I'll let you all know how I go and will take some happy snaps as well.

Whats the $$ for a pair of front rotors?

Finally got around to upgrading the brakes on the Prado...

Noticed the difference immediately.

Much better braking response. Better grab. Better braking after the brakes warm up. I would definantly recommend this upgrade.

Just as a note rotors are $249 ea RRP. Pads are $99 set RRP. If anyone wants the set, I can get VERY good pricing through one of my suppliers. Shoot me a PM if anyone is keen.

This is on my too-do list I reckon! That $249 for the rotors - when you say each are you meaning $249 for the front rotors and $249 for the back, or do you mean $249 per rotor, so basically to do this upgrade its $1400 + labour?

I wonder if its worth looking at the calipers also? Big $$$'s I suspect...

But I will be able to work something out for fellow Prado owners

No ideas on caliper upgrades, but I will be giving them a coat of paint next time I do a rotation. One of the best upgrades I've done. Brakes feel so much better. Especially after some spirited driving.

Im not going to bother doing the rears as a majority of the braking is done through the fronts.

Not sure yet. Depends on what heat proof paint I have at the shop. Maybe just in gloss silver or gloss black...

I have 134,993 klms on the original pads so far, 87,000 klms with a 2 -1/2 tonne van in tow, and the pads are only half worn.
NO, I don't tow at 50 kph, sit on speed limit even up to the 110kph on the freeways, but drive ahead of myself and very rarely have to use the brakes at all with the van in tow, brakes are used twice as much without it connected.
Know what you mean with brake fade if used heavily, had one pannic stop and scared the $&$^&^& out of me.

Well the origional pads finaly gave up the ghost at 120k so i gave the bendix option ago holy crap i nearly went through the windscreen on the first stop

interesting that most people who fit bendix pads say how well they stop. I fitted mine over the weekend and cannot tell any difference from the originals. Admittedly I haven't stomped on them in an emergency but in normal driving they seem just the same as before, none of that better initial bite or whiplash that others have reported.
