Thanks the screwdriver worked. I locked the calliper in the vice and went around each piston with the screwdriver and hammer to knock them down. All of them are out - now i need to get rid of the corrosion in the calliper and buy some new piston boots. Sounds like wet & dry is the go to get rid of the rust.

$130 for a servicing kit from Toyota for both of the front callipers - a lot more than the figures I'd seen around the web but then the Prado callipers have 4 pistons each. Picked up some wet & dry paper today so the next job is to sand down some of the corrosion that's built up in the callipers - appears to be only from the internal ring seal section to the outer edge of the piston bore. The seal had contained the rust and dust.

I got my $130 disc cylinder kit from Toyota today - does anyone know what I'm supposed to do with the pink stuff - is it lube for the piston seals?

farkkkkkkkkkkk you got ripped. i paid like 50 bucks from a brake company called bhss/tbs. thats in brisbane though. i covered the seals in brake fluid then put them in and put a bit on the pistons. replace all the pistions. $35-40 each. i replaced 4 out of 8 and now one has stuck. 5,000km out of pads is not cool. pm me if you need help my best mate did his trade as a fitter so knows all about brakes.

Hi Fellas. Regarding the removal of caliper pistons. A puller is available to draw these out. In the past when stuck for tools, I have used a grease gun to loosen a piston. Clamp the loose one then keep pumping to loosen next one. Clamp that one and so on. Uses a lot of grease and a bitch to clean up but frees up the pistons without damaging them. Cheers, Derb.

Lately I've almost worn through one rear brake pad on the inside, front 70% left all pads changed at the same time. Sounds like the piston is not retracting. I've e-mail the BHSS mob to see if they can supply a rebuild kit. I'm not keen on spending $150 on some rubber seals... that is ridiculous Toyota!
