Switched, I'd be more concerned about the cost of the extra fuel being used rather than wear on the tyres if the other half is accelerating that fast to stop them from unlocking.

G'day. I've just finished installing a lokka in the rear of my 95 series. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet - hopefully on the weekend! It was a reasonably large job but mostly because I followed the workshop manual most of the way before realising I didn't have to pull off half the things I had including pulling the handbrake assembly apart! Wasted hours there. Anyway the install went pretty smoothly except the internal clearances were too tight. After checking I had everything installed correctly a dozen times I called 4wdsystems. It turns out Toyota did a running change of the 90 series diff internals late 2001 early 2002. Mines a dec 2001 and I needed the later kit ( LR 124 not 123) so it was back to 4wdsystems to swap kits. I don't blame them - as far as we could tell you don't know which kit you need for sure until you have a look inside the carrier if you have a late 01 early 02 prado. Dave put the centre together whilst I was there and checked all the clearances which were spot on with the right parts.
I reckon I could do it in about 4 hrs start to finish now I know how few parts I really need to remove!
I'll post again once I've had a chance to try it out. Can't wait!

Just went for a test drive on road to check the unlocking action. Works perfectly. Hanging my head out the window I could just hear the ticking noise on slow u turns but you really have to listen for it. The lokka disengages and re engages so smoothly I definitely couldn't feel it. It drives perfectly normally. Hopefully that all changes in the rough stuff when I'm lifting a wheel! Should definitely know it's there then
P.S. Sorry my last post was so long!

They still show the LSD Lokka for Prado's on their website and when I spoke to them last week they didn't say they weren't doing them any more.
Got to try mine out yesterday - all I can say is b****y brilliant. I knew it was working in several places on the track and being locked and lifted I felt confident everywhere we went. On one particular climb that had several deep ruts and washouts as it twisted up through some boulders the guy in front of me kept lifting (and spinning) one of his back wheels stopping his forward momentum (I think he was also lifting a front wheel at the same time). He had to go back and forward a few times to get through. I just drove slowly up with no loss of traction even though I'm told one of my back wheels also got plenty of air time. I certainly don't regret getting mine fitted.

Sounds excellent Barry.
I think that will be my next investment prior to a winch.
