TP sounds like you are getting the run around. Happy to talk to one of the local OL places and put them in touch with you. If you want to go this way pm me an email address and I will phone OL head office tomorrow.

when my rear OEM locker's engaged it stays locked

why does the E-locker disengage if you go into a forward-reverse-forward sequence?

            cheers

Hasn't happened to me. I would be taking it back to the installer.

              Edit: - No I wouldn't - see post below.

The elocker works by a solenoid that moves a ramp to lock the differential. Going from forward to reverse turns the diff and the locker is unramped and then reramped if that makes sense. If you look at the design you can see it. I tried to test this on the sample diff at an OL store but it is not able to be tested (because it has been 'modified') but it does happen. May not be an issue in real life but I spoke with a guy from the Northern Territory and most of his locker work is in deep glutinous mud and rocking back and forth he does notice the issue. Takes about one full turn to reramp and for that period he either spins or digs with one wheel. He has since taken the elocker out and gone back to an ARB locker. He changed from the ARB to the elocker because of seal issues with the ARB.

                  I stand corrected.

I haven't noticed the effect yet, and have done some difficult stuff. I will pay more attention in the future.

if people are having issues with seals then the diff hasn't been setup correctly or the oil being used it too thin. A small amount of oil up the air line isn't a bad thing, but when you get a lot of oil up the airline then oil has gotten under the seals and the air pressure forces the oil back up the airline. Usually this is all caused by 3 factors, Incorrect pre-load amount which causes premature wear of bearings and then leading to poor backlash, number 2 is incorrect backlash, so gears are not contacting correctly. Number 3 would be one of the biggest causes and that's the incorrect oil being used when dealerships service a 4wd with air lockers as they just use the standard LSD or open diff oils.

I had the problem with my ARB lockers with oil in the air lines, after a couple of trips back to the installer they pulled it down and claim it was the oil seal not seated properly. All seems good now. I have yet to check again but the other problem was very heavy metallic clouding of the diff oil after the locker was installed. I have wondered about backlash and pre-load but the diffs make no noise and we have now managed over 40 000km since install. Interesting that they also added exhaust hoses to the ends of the solenoids to hide any oil after my complaint, I have pulled these off but there is no significant oil now so seems the major problem was incorrect seating of the oil seal on the initial instillation.

Yes, if the seal housing isn't seated properly or seals not seated, which is easy to do if care is not taken, then yes you will get huge amounts of oil up the airline.
And the reason for the heavy metallic look after a rebuild or on first oil change is due to the grease that is in the locker when they leave the ARB factory, and when pulling a diff out for service the diff center should be pulled completely apart and cleaned and greased on reassembly.
The exhaust kits are usually only used when the compressor is installed in the car to avoid any oil or smell of gear oil coming into the cabin.

Also if there is oil in the airline the airline should be replaced as well, as cleaning the oil out isnt enough. If this is not done you will be forcing oil back into the diff which can cause far more serious problems later on.

                          cheers
I had a front fitted to mine (GX) last October. Did some tough tracks in the High Country last November and the difference was amazing. You could just feel it help climb you up and over the rock steps.
As for rear or front a few very experienced 4wders I know said that if only doing one in a vehicle with IFS then do the front, and I am very glad I listened because it's very easy to lift a front wheel so with the locker engaged you keep he one on the ground moving which means you don't have to use as much right foot.
I would love both but $$$$ only go so far.
