  • Handbrake sticking?

    Hi all,

Earlier today when i went to reverse out of the carport I heard a clunk come from underneath the car and then it felt like something was physically stopping the car from moving(in forward and reverse), it wasn't unitl i gave it abit of curry that i heard another clunk and got some movement.
This is the second time its happened, the first happened a year ago the day after some creek crossings and I washed the car yesterday so I'm hoping the handbrakes getting stuck on the shaft due to the water somehow and not a prob in the trans, it can't be the diffs because I recently got airlockers.
Has this happened to anyone else?

    Cheers Wade

My hand break sticks in the wet season when the air is abit heavy or after river crossing just before setting up camp. The first few times it happend I was concerned; but a friend who had another prado explained that it was the hand break.

Hey Chuck you in Karratha or Port Hedland? I'm stuck inland in Paraburdoo. Your avaitor reminds me of the roads in the Kimberleys.

This is a blast from the past. The 120 uses drums for the hand brake, and drums do have a habit of sticking when they get a bit of surface rust in moist conditions.

Reminds me of my old Morris Minor!

              Sticking hand brake

Mine did the same when washed with the gurney or water crossing.
Whenever they get wet, just pull the brake on and off a few times whilst moving and dry them out before you park it.
