The work Prado has joined the rear diff club. Late 2009 GX T/dsl auto. Looks like it's going to be off the road for a week and a half until they can get the parts in.

Bugger Bali, get out and see Australia before we sell it all to China.
Well unfortunately, my Prado has joined the rear diff club. Late 2005 GXL Petrol. Going up a steepish hill with lots of holes, dropped into one, lots of wheelspin, car rocked back. Stopped and reversed down, tried to move forward, then bang. Diff gone.

The work Prado got a diff rebuild but, because it was last serviced at Ultratune Kalgoorlie and they didn't stamp the service book next to "replace diff fluid", Toyota will not cover all repairs under warranty. The fleet manager authorized repairs meaning we pay. The car couldn't get into Toyota for a service due to their large workload so was sent to Ultratune. There you go.

Hi another person have the problem. In my case after removing the rear drive shaft their was no noise, before this it sounded really bad. I did drive home (>200km) in high lock (effectively front wheel drive). With a view that a whole second hand axle assembly might be as much as a flat tray on a Sunday that sort of distance. The interesting thing was how quiet the car was on the way home. Seems I was right about the diff noise I complained to toyota about, they (Sci Fleet taringa) kept saying they could not hear anything and/or it was tyre noise. Anyhow I am full year out of warranty so I am not bothering to fight about it. ARB/WEstside 4x4 in sumner are sorting me out, I am adding a diff locker at the same time. I take the car in tomorrow.
hi,
had a quick read of this thread, from what I've seen most of it is about the rear diff. My question is my front end is making what I thought was blown CV's, have replaced the front CV's and am still getting the "clicking" or as I have read "a gun shot" noise from the front, but only when under heavy load i.e. testing the cv's on the road on full lock in 4WD, or today when towing a land rover and turned right hand down. Could this mean that the front diff may have chipped worn teeth, hence the noise??
Mines a bit different, Prado went in to have the pneumatic seals in the air lockers replaced due to oil coming back up the air lines and out the solenoids on the compressor. Spoke to the mechanic today and he tells me ARB are sending a new diff for the rear, he was most unhappy with some of the wear he saw when it was removed. Prado has only done 38k and lockers were put in with 3000 on the odo. Should all be covered under warranty though.
Cheers Andrew

Hmm, sounds like a very similar issue to what Nika had. He then had air blasting out the breathers when the locker was engaged.
Man... Reading stuff like this about ARB diffs etc makes me giggle at all the times I've heard that it always pays to go with a 'top' quality brand......
