Or do they still run the same diffs? I can't recall ever reading about better diffs used in updated later model 120's here before, so I thought I'd ask.

Have they updated the diffs for the 120's yet?

I would imagine that they are still using the same diffs.
Given that the failure rate is around 1% of the amount sold.
There aint no arguing with the fact that its only a small percentage of Prado's that will ever see the dirt.
Not a bad thing when i comes time to look for a 1 or 2 year old one to trade up into though.2003 V6 GXL, Mickey Thompson MTZ's, Safari Snorkel, ARB Winch Bar, OME Suspension 2" lift, GME TX3420

It would be interesting to know the percentages of the vehicles with diff problems against the vehicles used offroad and whether there have been any problems with any vehicles used exclusively on road. The conditions that cause this flex just wouldn't happen on the road.2003 V6 GXL, Mickey Thompson MTZ's, Safari Snorkel, ARB Winch Bar, OME Suspension 2" lift, GME TX3420

She took several goes to get up the kerb - it just kept bouncing her backwards - and when she finally did climb the front wheels up it she took off. The front wheels dropped down the other side while the back wheels hadn't climbed up yet - CRASH - as the belly (and whatever else is unprotected under there) bounced on the concrete. She wasn't quite stuck - so she rocked it back and forwards a bit until she climbed the back wheels up the kerb and then took off.
I reckon it was hubby's car and he'd just forgotten her birthday ops:
Anyway ... that Terrycan took more of a hammering than Russ' Prado on the weekend - :?: :?: :?:
My 2 cents.
Cheers

Sorry to hear about the diff Matthew ... but now I'm hanging out for the rest of the story
The hill he was going up wasn't that bad Chippy. Unlocked Hiluxes were getting up it ok. I think it was the fact that the Prado was attempting to drive up two rock steps at the same time (as the wheelbase exactly matched the distance between the steps). The Hiluxes, with their slightly longer wheelbases were taking these steps one at a time. The steps where only about 200mm high, but it was about a 30 degree incline :shock:Brett - 07 Triton - Forum Interloper
