    Hi Chippy,
No do not use any of above go to a ships chandler eg. Whitworths or the other mob in Freo cant remember their name exactly and get either Liquid Lectric Tape (4oz. Bottle about $15.00) or spray on CRC Plasticote 70 about $13.00 the Lec tric Tape is good but if the connection is above the Transfer Case use the CRC Plasticote Their are also many other brands that do a good sealing job.

I use these products on all external/ exposed connectors when doing vehicle or marine wiring runs, I normally get under my new vehicles and coat all connectors with Plasticote and never have earthing or continuity problems.

    Hope this helps

That white goop is a thermal compound used between the CPU and heatsink to improve thermal conductivity. Not really designed for electrical connections. Clifton's suggestion of something to exclude water ingress sounds like the way to go.

im just reading through posts and thought i would add to this on even know it is sorted 4 months ago . Hopefully people use the search button rather than asking the same question again and this might help .

VASELINE is the ticket for this problem , simple white petroleum jelly.

its absolutely non conductive and 100% waterproof .

The electricians "goop" stuff is electrolube grease for greasing up contactors/slide switches , also the white "goop" is heatsink paste , there is also grey contact paste , this is for greasing electrical contacts in corrosive enviroments BUT is completely conductive for a better resistance between 2 different metal surfaces . do not use any of these or you will short out between the pins .

                  Hi All

Just joined as a new user after purchasing a 2003 GXL Prado 4ltr V6 (Feb 2008.)

In fact I joined for the very reason to find out about the indicator liohgts on the dash. Since purchasing the beast I have never seen any lights indicating that the central transfer is locked. Hence did I buy a dud.

I was glad to read that it may just be wiring.

How hard is it to get to the conectors?

Also "Chippy" I'm also in Perth any ideas who to talk to over here for advice.

                  Cheers

                  BC :?

                    Hi BC,

welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll get a lot from it and end up as sad addicts like the rest of us.

If you've just bought it from a dealer, Id take it back to them asap and get them to check it out - you've got your compulsory 3 months warranty. If you bought it privately, then ... hang out on here. No doubt you'll get more opinions than you expected. For almost anything that goes wrong, there are those who have had it and fixed it and there are also some clever techie types around here that are always able to help.

And, BTW, Chippy's no Perthie. He's a southerner

Cheers for that, I browsed the forum proir to buyig and found it very useful. There's a lot of info out there. I did buy from a dealer so I'll get it back there and they can spend some time and money on it.

                      Cheers all
