    Hi Guys,
I have owned a few manual diesel 4wd's and my 07 D4D has a very noisy clutch throw-out bearing , with only 5300 km's on clock , when my old hilux 2.4D was this noisy I would replace the clutch throw-out bearing.

Will be interesting to talk to toyota at the next service.

Well, 2 months later after throw out bearing No. 3 was installed, my local dealer is installing throw out bearing No. 4 today. (No. 3 was squeaking the day after they installed it).

Upon actually having a look to see what the problem was (instead of just replacing the symptoms) they tell me that some of the fingers on the pressure plate are raised and are grabbing the bearing. So now my dealer is arguing with Toyota Head Office about putting a whole new clutch kit in (under warranty) and my wife is without her car until they do.

I don't know what's worse, arguing with Toyota, or copping it from my wife for not having a car

The throw out bearing noise... Does this happen when you let the clutch out?? Mine sounds shocking... Sounds like an ultra squeeky bloody door, it's driving me nuts at the moment!

Easily heard when idling with your foot off the clutch, especially if outside the car.

ah ok, I don't think thats my problem. Mine squeaks only when you push the clutch in and let it out whether the car is running or not.

Got my Prado back last night, the dealer had it for a week while they and Toyota sorted out whether it was a warranty job or not. The good news is that the dealer got permission to put a whole new clutch kit in the car under warranty, so hopefully this will help set a precedent and anyone else with the same problem should be able to get a complete new kit, instead of just the pressure plate (which is the real culprit) and the throw out bearing (which is the symptom).

The bad news is that my car is now out of warranty and Toyota are reluctant to give me a 3 yr/ 60 000 km wty on the new parts, despite the fact that the original parts never saw out the warranty period in the first place.

If anyone else in Brisbane has the problem and the vehicle is still under warranty, shoot me a pm and I will give you the contact details for the guy at Torque Toyota Brendale that I have been dealing with and now knows about the issue.

              Cheers,
              Rob.

                  Noisy clutch

hi guys, i have a different clutch noise though, whenever the clutch pedal is depressed it makes a "whooshing" air wheezing type of sound...
(something you hear when u pump air into a bicycle with a hand pump)

i brought it to the toyota dealer, and they couldnt find any problems with the clutch pump, bearings, etc. They did some greasing and it was ok again..they just told me the clutch greasing points was dry.

But after a few weeks later, it came back. its getting louder and the noise very noticeable from the outside. What could possibly be wrong with it??

Is the noise present when the engine is NOT running?

                      Hi Guys,

Had the same issue, noticed it the day after I came back from fraser (45k) and progressively getting worse. Took it in to get checked at the 70k service, service manager mentioned that the release bearing was buggered and that a new clutch kit will be installed into the car. All covered under warranty no questions asked!

In saying that, a mate of mine who owned a 2004 model TD hilux had the same issue. He was told that river crossings and dust is the root cause to the release bearing issue.

Did/does anyone get a heavy pedal? Our clutch pedal got really heavy, and noisy. Worse than driving a roadranger.

                          Re: Noisy Clutch

the clutch is making a louder whooshing sound now, followed by a metal to metal squeak...like dragging a metal chair on a floor.

it makes a whooshing sound when its switch on or off...anyone has this?
my prad is going 80+++KM now, so off for a maintenance check. including a timing belt change, diff oil, transmission oil, motor oil, etc etc...going to ask them to check that problem too..

what are the usual 80+++KM stuff that need replacing?

Going back to Toyota tomorrow morning, looks like the release bearing is buggered yet again! Symptom is the same as what I had before.

                              Re: Noisy Clutch

My Prado has just started making a loud squeaking noise whenever I press the clutch in or release it, happens when the car is on and off. There is no rattle or ticking noise like some others have experienced and later found that the release bearing is stuffed.

Does this mean it just needs to be greased as there is no rattle or ticking? Or am I going to have to get a new release bearing?

                              Cheers

Sounds like the fork/pivot/spring area ... try a little spray on grease, something like tac2 or a dry moly spray.
